Description

I had an issue with my Blue Compass boom arm where there was too much tension and it would lead to my Yeti Mic making it's way back into the air. I had to weigh down the arm (after loosening the tensioner bolt), and it would still consistently make its way up and away from my face.

So I cranked down on the center joint and ended up breaking the tensioner- it's a housing that holds the nut to keep the arm in-place.

This arm is expensive, so I check online for parts or to see if I can find anything on this issue. I did find a video here that shows the exact issue I have, but the user does not wish to share the file. In a world of makers- I thought this was ridiculous for such a small part and recreated the part to share here.

I adjusted this to the best of my ability and printed it in ABS, 100% infill, and would heavily recommend printing it in a way that the layer lines go long-ways. This will make sure your tensioner doesn't break/split under normal use. I assume other filaments should be fine for this use-case.

If you had the same struggle that I did (too much tension) where the arm would keep raising- I recommend this video on how to get this resolved. When reassembling, make sure the cable runs around the outside of the post on the center joint. I forgot to check this orientation and my arm was forcing itself straight. Super quick and easy fix though.

I couldn't be happier to see if someone actually gets some help out of this. Feel free to ask questions as I took this thing apart enough times to fully understand how it works now. If anyone would like a guide, I'd be more than happy to pull the arm again for a guide on the tensioner and the slight extension I made to the cable inside for my original issue.

As always: You're doing this at your own discretion, and it's your responsibility if there's any further damage to your mic arm, self, or surroundings. We're all makers though, so try it and give it your best shot!
