Description

My first 100% self made 3D model in FreeCad
(Requested by a friend)

Kymco Agility Carburetor Maintenance Plastic Lid/Cover.

OEM part: 81251-LCB9-C10.

Made with 0 prior knowledge of CAD, and only a few irl measures + pictures references + youtube tutorials.

Printed on: | Bambulab A1 | 0.4 nozzle | PLA Charcoal | 0.12mm layer height |

  • Model does not contain the original “CARB. MAINT.” text the OEM part has (picture 2). You can add it back in FreeCad if you wish so;
  • Printed on 0.12mm layer height as i had issues with 0.20mm and 0.16mm: the inner overhang wall (layer ~14-16) would not adhere correctly, and it would start a spaghetti spiral of doom: if you know more about 3DP settings, you could definitely print at 0.20/other heights with the correct setup, which i, unfortunately, do not know. I tried to decrease the speed for the overhangs to 50-20-10, while also switching to 0.16mm layer height. I do not know which of these two fixed the issue (as that was my last and final attempt), but at least one of them did;
  • While the bottom clip (the longer and wide one) does need support to print correctly, the others can be printed without it: tried both with and without support on the other clips, and i saw no difference;
  • There are some minor issues/fixes which i would've made to the model, (inner raised perimeter/wall needs a 16mm radius instead of 8mm at the corners; the distance between the top 2 clips needs to be a couple bigger by a couple of mm), but according to my friend the lid fits perfectly, without any issues, so I'll leave it at that.
