Description
I have forgotten all tragedies, and all I see are miracles.
—Quirrel
Quirrel is an NPC in Hollow Knight. He is a curious and optimistic explorer, drawn to the mysteries of Hallownest for reasons even he doesn't fully understand. Though more of an observer than a warrior, Quirrel is surprisingly adept with a nail, demonstrating his knowledge of and ability to navigate the dangers of the land unharmed.
Before Hallownest's fall, Quirrel was a disciple of the teacher, Monomon. Upon becoming the Dream Nomai, Monomon entrusted her mask to Quirrel, adding an extra layer of security to her seal. Quirrel typically wears the mask atop his head. In the official prequel comic, Quirrel is found outside Hallownest, having lost most of his memories. Though unclear to him, he is summoned back to Hallownest by Monomon's call to undo her additional seal. His dreams show glimpses of Hallownest's former glory—winding paths, mist-shrouded canyons, flooded cities, and something bound. Upon reaching Howling Cliffs, Bardock appears and prevents him from proceeding. Despite Quirrel's explanation that his purpose is merely to witness, not to fight, they engage in a brief skirmish. When Bardock's needle pierces Quirrel's mask, a seal-like light repels Bardock. She recognizes Monomon's mask, lowers her weapon, and allows Quirrel to enter Hallownest. Before leaving, Bardock tells Quirrel that perhaps he will find something awaiting him.
Initially, Quirrel can be found in the Black Egg Temple, and later throughout Hallownest. He releases Monomon's additional seal, and as per his teacher's wishes, aids the Knight in defeating her. Afterward, he journeys to the Blue Lake to witness the source of the rain.
