Description
When I damaged the wallpaper trying to remove the original glued-on Nanoleaf click mounts, I thought to myself: there has to be a better way. A friend suggested nailing the original click mounts directly to the wall instead of gluing, but that still didn’t satisfy me. So, I created this.
Heads up: Installation is definitely a job for multiple people!
As you can see in the pictures, I’ve designed small brackets that attach to the corners of the triangles. These brackets are secured to the wall with nails. I’ve created versions for intersections from one to five triangles. Unfortunately, a six-triangle intersection isn’t supported by this system—but in that case, you might not need to secure the center at all, since the surrounding brackets hold everything quite firmly.
The brackets are designed for nails with a 2 mm shaft diameter and a 5 mm head diameter, but you might be able to get away with slightly different sizes.
For the controller, I designed a special bracket that allows mounting it at a single triangle tip. If anyone needs it mounted at a different spot, let me know, I’m happy to create a modified version. As shown in the photos, the cable and light are not obstructed in any way.
I printed the brackets as provided in the file, i.e. with the side that faces the room facing downwards, for the best surface finish. This did require a lot of supports, but they were easy to remove with some pliers. I used PolyTerra PLA (Cotton White) as filament.
Assembly and mounting:
I did this with two friends. We first assembled larger segments on the floor, then carefully mounted them on the wall. A few tips:
- Single and double-tip intersections can be slid into place.
- Larger intersections need to be preassembled.
- All connectors and power cables should be clicked in before mounting!
Removal should also pretty easy with relatively pointy pliers to pull the nails out, however I have not tried this, since I am very happy with this mounting.
