- 3.5mm Stereo Jack Panel Mount Connector x 1:
Description
These are the headphones I use with my digital piano, and I kept tripping over the cable until the plug finally gave out. There are a few similar mods out there, but since I just got my 3d printer, I figured I would try and see if I could make something that was exactly the way I wanted it (one of the reasons the .STL file is a bit of a mess).
The headphone's construction is pretty basic, which makes this an easy mod. Use the tip of a knife to gently pry off the plastic cover (that says Samson) of the cap, and underneath you'll find the one screw that holds the cap in place.
Hot glue or other hard-to-remove or destructive mounting methods are not my favourite, so I chose a small 3.5mm stereo jack panel mount connector that I could secure with a ring on the front (many other connectors use a nut on the back of the mounting panel). I bought it from Amazon: RUNCCI-YUN, manufactured by Guangzhourunximaoyiyouxiangongse... :)
The mod CAP was printed in basic PLA using mostly default settings: infill density was increased to 30% for added strength and supports were added with increased top Z distance (0.275mm) for easier support removal.
The fact that the ring is on the front makes it easy to solder the wires to the plug; I used a small section of the original cable. Next, insert the plug into the mod cap and secure it with the ring. Then screw down the cap with the original screw and put the cap back on.
