This hydroponic planter does not require any soil. The pot contains a nutrient solution consisting of water and a hydroponic fertilizer. A small pump (approx 200-400 l/h) ensures that the water remains in motion, ideally supplying the plant with nutrients

  • Optimal oxygenation prevents root rot and ideally supplies the plant with nutrients
  • Water level indicator in the pot
  • Minimized fertilizer use due to the hydroponic system
  • Fewer pests and no fungal infestation as no soil is used

The plant is placed into the pot lid using a removable plant insert. Rock wool, cotton, or clay pellets (or a combination) can be used as planting medium. I prefer rock wool and additionally use clay pellets as the top layer

The plant can also be rotated at any time if you wish. Additionally, stakes (included in the print profile) can be printed and inserted into the plant insert to support larger plants, especially when fruiting

The pump only needs to run for about 15 minutes per hour; I have set this with a timer. If desired, you can also let the pump run continuously. Since a small pump with a maximum of 400 liters per hour is used, the energy consumption is less than 5 watts. I use a COKDEZ 350L/H pump

The pump is attached using a short hose piece with a 12 mm inner diameter and 16 mm outer diameter. This is a common size in aquaristics in Europe; if needed, I will also support other hose sizes. Please submit a request via the comment function

In the diffuser of the pot lid, water is mixed with air and thus enriched with oxygen. This not only prevents root rot but also significantly improves the plant's nutrient uptake. Furthermore, this solution reliably prevents the water from "turning stagnant"

For your plants to grow well, a hydroponic fertilizer must be added to the water. You also need to provide your plants with sufficient light, which, of course, depends on the plant species and your climatic conditions

I use a VIVOSUN VS1000E LED grow light with 100 watts. Especially bell pepper and chili plants need a lot of light, so you definitely shouldn't skimp here if you want to achieve good results

The hydroponic planter can also be used outdoors. I printed it with PETG material so that it is temperature and UV resistant. I can recommend Bambu's PETG-HF, which behaves almost like a regular PLA when printing

You need both print profiles, as the container must be printed with different settings to be 100% waterproof

This planter is suitable for medium-sized plants such as smaller tomatoes, bell peppers, or chilies. If you are interested in a solution for smaller plants and herbs, I recommend my small Hydroponic Tower. The container of this pot is 100% compatible with the tower, so you only need to print the pot once and can switch between this solution and the hydroponic tower as you wish

Note

If you are looking for a larger system, I recommend my Hydroponic Kit for the Lechuza BALCONERA 40 pot. The plant inserts are 1:1 compatible with this hydroponic planter

Updates:

June 17, 2025 - Due to individual reports of leaks in the containers, this has been further optimized. In addition to 100% infill, the connections between the bottom and walls are now rounded, and the bottom surface is smoothed during printing

December 22, 2025 - Plant insert and plant stakes optimized. Extension for plant stakes added. Description of the last plate corrected
