Description

Mosquito Death Bucket

Materials:

  • 5 Gallon Bucket with Lid
  • Silicone-based Caulk
  • Utility knife w/ fresh blade
  • Transparent Sticky Trap Film
  • Mosquito Dunks

Theory:

Mosquitoes fly into the bucket to lay their eggs in the water. The larva never reaches the adult stage due to the Mosquito Dunk. When the adult mosquitos try to fly off, they get stuck in the Clear Dome area and most should get caught by the sticky trap. This is based on the BG-GAT passive mosquito trap.

Assembly:

  1. Place Clear Dome on the center of the bucket lid.
  2. Using a marker, trace around the bottom lip of the Dome, inside and out.
    1. Hole diameter will measure 6.25”
  3. Using the utility knife, cut a hole in the bucket lid. Make sure to cut between the traced lines.
  4. Insert the Dome into the hole and silicone in place.
  5. Silicone the Film Hanger Plugs into the Dome
  6. Allow silicone to cure.
  7. Drill a small hole in the bucket, about 2/3rds up from the bottom to allow drainage from rain fall.
  8. Fill the bucket with water and add yard debris, e.g. leaves, grass, etc.
  9. Add half of a Mosquito Dunk.
  10. Attach lid to the bucket.
  11. Press Transparent Sticky Trap Film around Clear Dome interior or hang off Plugs.
  12. Insert Funnel into Clear Dome
  13. Place in a wind protected area. You may have to test different locations.

I've included a Dome with hanger plugs and without.
