Extendable Planing Bench Stop

A planing stop is a simple solution to securing stock on the work bench or MFT for planing or shaping with a hand plane, chisel, scraper, or any woodworking hand tool. The planing stop is secured by ¾ inch or 20 mm bench dogs that slide in the rails and can be adjusted to fit any configuration of bench dog holes. Profiles including both size bench dogs have been added.

Rail length is customizable using the Scale tool and selecting “Object Coordinates”. Max size is 330 mm on full size printers and 220 mm on the A1 mini. Profiles for both have been added. 

This print includes extendable rails using custom fitted connectors that let you extended the length of rails to secure longer stock. See pictures for the connectors in action.

NOTE ON ADHESION/WARPING: Recommend starting first layer at 65 degree celsius (149 F) and other layers at 55 degree celsius (131 F) to prevent warping due to temperature differences of subsequent layers. Let the print cool before removing. Testing with textured plate at these settings ensured a flat print of the rails.

Printed in PLA with no issues. Consider PETG if you want more strength.

A drop of 3-in-1 oil in the rails will help bench dogs and connectors slide around more easily.
