Description

This back-lock folding knife references the structural design of the Cold Steel SRK (Survival Rescue Knife). The model requires zero supports during printing. Assembly needs no tools, adhesives, or hardware - components snap together through precision interlocking.

Project Background:
My ongoing research focuses on developing 3D-printable folding knife locking mechanisms that are simple, efficient, and durable.

Key Design Requirements:

The locking mechanism maintains natural state in both closed and locked positions without compression deformation - critical as 3D printed materials lose elasticity under sustained stress.

No Z-axis force bearing capacity - compensates for weak interlayer adhesion in FDM printing.

Print-optimized architecture with seamless integration for other 3D printed components, enabling support-free, hardware-free, and glue-free assembly.

Development Status:
This project represents a successful milestone achieving all specified criteria. Ongoing research will produce additional folding knives with various locking mechanisms in the near future.

Assembly Tutorial (Visual Guide):

1.All components shown

2.Install internal parts as illustrated
3.Snap handle scales together (moderate force required) and secure with this RED component

The strength of 3D-printed knives cannot be guaranteed and they are suitable only for light-duty tasks, such as cutting paper or opening Amazon packages. Unless otherwise specified, all of my knife designs are intended for light-duty use only.

I like how it all steps together pretty easy and I can figure out how to put it together without having to look back at the pictures. my first layer or two didn’t stick well and I had to cut off a lot of hairs between the bristles but overall it’s pretty good. it doesn’t feel like it brushes my hair very good either but it’s a toy. I printed this out of PETG.
