Rugged Case for LowPowerLab CurrentRanger
Print Profile(1)

Description
This is a rugged case for holding the LowPowerLab's CurrentRanger precision ammeter, along with two 18650 batteries for power and some accessory cables. The case is designed to have the CurrentRanger mounted in it, as the CurrentRanger is just a circuit board without any sort of case of its own.
Below the board is a compartment for a pair of 18650 Li-ion batteries (in parallel not series), plus some room for foam packing material, that will allow the device to run for many many hours without being plugged in.
The top has a panel that some soft 5-10mm foam can be glued to to pack nicely against the CurrentRanger's Oled display to prevent it from coming unplugged and bouncing around inside the case. Behind the panel is another compartment for storing whatever you want, I have a USB-C cable and a banana jack to BNC cable for using the CurrentRanger with an ocsilloscope. There's a DXF file included for the foam piece if you have a laser cutter, but you can also just cut it by hand pretty easily.
There are cutouts in the case for the USB-C port on the back and for the terminal blocks on the input and output on the sides. This allows the device to be used when the lid is closed for long duration logging and such. As an obvious side effect of these large holes, the case is not water-resistant at all. Additionally the “seal” doesn't go all the way around, so it doesn't actually seal anything, I just use it as a decorative inlay.
To assemble this case you need six M3x18mm screws, four M2.5 screws, and four M2.5 heat set inserts. The holes for the heat set inserts extend way down past the inserts themselves, which means you can use any length of inserts and M2.5 screws, but also means you have to be a bit more careful not to press the inserts too far into the holes.
