Camera Autofocus Calibration Target

This tool is designed to help fine-tune your camera’s autofocus system. It features a center focus target and an angled ruler to the right that clearly indicates whether your camera is front- or back-focusing. Just focus on the center of the target and check the ruler to diagnose your autofocus performance.

The print consists of two 3D-printed parts that should be glued together. You’ll also need to download, print, and cut out the included paper target and ruler, then glue them onto the marked surfaces as shown in the photos.

The assembled target can be placed on a flat surface, or the rear tab can be mounted to a standard 1/4” stud on a light stand.

Recommended Camera Setup for Best Results:

• Use Single-Point Autofocus (AF-S / One-Shot) to ensure the camera focuses precisely on the center of the target.
• Mount your camera on a tripod, directly level with the target, so that the sensor plane is perpendicular to the center target.
• Ensure the center AF point is aligned with the bullseye of the printed paper target.
• Use good, even lighting to minimize shadows and maximize contrast.
• Use your camera’s base ISO and your lens' largest aperture (e.g., f/1.4–f/2.8) for shallow depth of field and accurate focus reading.
• If your camera or lens allows for autofocus micro-adjustments (AFMA / AF Fine Tune), make small adjustments and retest until focus lands perfectly on the center line of the ruler.
