Description
SpinCraft is a new twist on a classic top. Fun for kids and adults, this unique kit lets you craft colorful custom spinners that blend when in motion. Part of what makes it satisfying is how the disks fit together and come apart - check it out:

Though the final product appears elegantly simple, significant care went into creating fully reversible, interlocking disks that align on the peg, even when flipped over.
The holder and disk separator are optional but recommended. While disks can be separated manually, it can be fiddly. The separator makes the process fun and easy: just place the disks onto the tool. If they don't come apart on their own, gently press down on the edges.
Spinning a fully loaded top can be challenging, but that’s part of the fun! Experiment to discover how large you can build and still get a satisfying spin. For easier spins, start with the top half-loaded. You can still create a beautiful rainbow with just six disks.

Filament Colors

Feel free to experiment with filament colors. Cyan/Magenta/Yellow (CMY) combinations were best in my trials, yielding distinct and beautiful pastel colors which approximate the 6 classic named colors of the rainbow. Bambu’s CMYK kit offers a hassle-free starter palette.
Another option is to use an RGB palette for bolder colors, though you won't get a separate yellow vs. orange. Traditional primary colors (RYB) can also be used, but the blended green is muddy. A hybrid approach (such as CMYRG) provides more hue options by cutting out the black & white disks. Or just print 2 sets and have twice the color options!
Specific filaments I used in the gallery photos:
- Desert Tan - Bambu PLA Matte (for the non-disk parts of the model)
- Turquoise - Bambu PLA Basic
- Magenta - Polymaker PLA Pro
- Lemon Yellow - Bambu PLA Matte
- Black - Sunlu Silk PLA
- White - Bambu Silk PLA
(any black/white PLA should suffice - I prefer shiny ones)
Printing
Print the disk plate five times in different colors.
- No AMS needed.
- Consider a glossy or prismatic build plate for added visual impact.
Assembly
Insert each peg's flat end into a top's tip. It is intentionally snug.
- If challenging to insert, check for over-extrusion. Alternatively, bevel the flat end with flush cutters, or reprint the tops' tips scaled up by ~0.1mm in the X & Y dimensions.
- Press firmly against a flat surface after inserting. Glue usually isn’t necessary.
Thank You
I managed to pull my older kids away from Minecraft for about 30 minutes to fidget with this. Let me know if you fare better :)

Membership
You can always print this model for yourself or to gift, for free. Selling prints requires a tier 1 or higher membership. The allowed sales quantity is specified within each tier's terms.
Update: Color Mix MakerChip
I designed a MakerChip which is compatible with SpinCraft. No, I don't intend for anyone to print one themselves, but if you meet me at an event I'll probably have a bunch of colors to pick from so you can assemble your own.
