Description

🧠 Think Your Eyes Can't Be Fooled?

Print this and prepare to doubt your own vision. The Optical Illusion Tray looks like it’s bending reality—but it's just smart design messing with your brain. Straight lines suddenly seem crooked, and depth appears where there’s none.

🌀 Show it to your friends and watch the confusion set in.

“Wait... those lines are straight?!”

Yup. And you'll love seeing everyone do a double-take.

All that with just ~20 grams of filament! Quick to print, big on brain-bending impact.

This illusion is based on a variation of the classic Café Wall Illusion—by carefully offsetting tiles, it tricks your brain’s edge detection into seeing curves and slopes where only straight lines exist.

🎨 Only 2 Colors—But It Looks Like 3?

Here’s the magic:
This model uses just two filament colors, but cleverly placed recessed gaps between the squares cast natural shadows, creating a third shade. The result? A rich, dimensional illusion with only two swaps.

🖤🤍 And the best part: It’s not limited to black and white!
Use any two high-contrast colors—like red & white, blue & yellow, or even neon combos—and the illusion still works. The shadows fill in the missing tone automatically.

🖨️ How to Print It

You’ll find two versions in the print profile:

  • AMS Version for automatic multi-color printing (no manual intervention needed)
  • Non-AMS Version that uses a pause at layer 17—this is where you manually swap filament colors.
⚠️ Don’t skip the pause—it’s essential to create the illusion effect!

🧩 Why It Works

Your brain expects horizontal lines to be straight—but thanks to the offset tiles, your visual system gets confused. The added depth from the gaps reinforces the illusion, making the rows appear to curve or lean when they’re perfectly straight.

🎁 What to Use It For

  • A mind-bending tray with function and flair
  • The ultimate conversation starter
  • Desk decor with a twist
  • A clever gift for puzzle lovers and design geeks alike

Yep all should be square it's quite interesting :) Also if you move your head the lines seem to move to be crooked in different angles!
