Description

Das Alphabet
(The Alphabet)

Update 2026/03/11:
Added small letters

My daughter lost some of her beloved wooden alphabet learning cards and I decided to design my own including a handy box…and here they are!

And because she brought it to her Kindergarten group the teachers asked if I can make a set for the “ladybugs” as well - that's why there's a cute ladybug on each card and the box lid (there are even two of them).

Each card is 50x70x4mm in size. The whole basic alphabet with its 26 letters is included and also the whole German alphabet with it's 4 special letters (Umlaute Ä, Ö, Ü and also ẞ).

The box is made out of two parts, base and lid. The cards are tight fit, which I noticed, is important when printing with PLA. They'll get loose a bit after a few days but they still won't fall out.

The lid is also tight fit.

Also I've added a pause for both base and lid at certain height for inserting 6 6x2mm neodymium magnets. THIS IS OPTIONAL. Just resume the print if you don't want them.

The Cards are very durable - my daughter approved it. The box feels and looks durable as well but I didn't test it.

The whole print weighs around 500g.

I've used Overyture Matte PLA for both colors and I generally recommend to use matte filaments with this print. It will look just awesome.

No ironing needed on my P1S, the cards are smooth.

Printing advises:

Nothing special - no supports, no brim, no special infill, no special wall configuration, no work afterwards. Just standard settings at 0.16mm layer height (I've tested 0.2mm but 0.16mm is just perfect imho).

I'm planning to add more language specific letters! But it will take time.

If you want to help, send me a message and I'll send you the Fusion files.

the cards are great! is it possible to have the same thing but in lowercase? or even in cursive? I would like to create a sort of memory game so that my children associate the different types of writing

just try it, it’s not that hard. I can recommend Autodesk Fusion. there are plenty of tutorials on YouTube and I would say there are also very much in French. I’ve noted your idea but it’ll take time.
