This works to quickly set your stop collar on your drill bit when setting up to make pocket holes. I originally designed this for a customer who lost his base and needed multiple sets for his shop.
The measurement on this is identical to the one that is included with the kreg K4 pocket hole jig, but can be used with any pocket hole setup. The K4 kreg jig includes this measurement device in their base, however, I don't always have my base with me when I am using my portable pocket hole jigs.
The way it works:
Position your drill bit in the drill bit slot and line the shoulder of the drill bit up with the thickness of your work piece. The measurements in white represent the thickness of the material you are drilling through.

In the above photo, the shoulder of my drill bit is set at ¾". This is the thickness of the board I am using this on.
Once I lay my drill bit to the correct length with the stop collar pushed up against the edge of the jig, I tighten down the nut on my collar thereby setting the stop.
I can now use my drill bit to set my holes with my pocket jig.
***Note*** You must still use a pocket jig. This just sets your bit.
I designed this to mimic the accuracy set forth in the Kreg K4 jig. Every measurements matches the kreg measurements identically.
