Description
BatBox – Cozy home for bats, Print in Place! 🦇
Have you ever thought about helping nature… with your 3D printer?
With the BatBox, you can do it big time!
A batbox is a small house for bats designed to offer them a safe refuge to rest during the day. Bats, besides being fascinating creatures, are natural allies against mosquitoes and other insects, and help maintain the ecosystem's balance. Installing one in your garden or on your balcony is a simple but important gesture for local biodiversity!
Mosquito problems? The bat is the solution, each bat can eat up to 6000 mosquitoes per night!!
🛠️ Model Features:
- 3D Print in Place – No interlocking parts, no glue, no stress. Just press "print" and you're halfway there.
- Optimized Version 2 – In this new version, I have minimized bridges, significantly improving print quality and ease of success even with entry-level printers.

- Functional Design – The entrance is narrow to discourage unwanted predators, while the interior has rough surfaces to facilitate bats' landing and grip.
- Variants - on the plate you will find both the version with the word BATBOX and without
- Recommended material: PETG or ASA to better withstand the elements, but PLA can also work if placed in a sheltered location.
- Do not paint the inside, paints can be toxic to bats, and even on the outside, use non-toxic products
🎯 Why print a BatBox?
- Support local wildlife
- Naturally reduce the presence of mosquitoes
- Educational and useful project
- Perfect for nature-loving makers!
Where to install a BatBox:
☀️ Sun Exposure
- South or Southeast is the ideal orientation.
- Bats love warmth, so a position well exposed to the morning sun helps them maintain a stable internal temperature.
- Avoid constantly shaded or too cold areas.
- In hot areas, prevent the internal temperature from reaching 40°C they should be placed to receive plenty of sunlight in the morning, but be shaded in the afternoon to avoid overheating, and it is advisable to choose light colors
🏡 Height
- At least 3–4 meters from the ground (the higher, the better).
- This discourages predators and facilitates bats' entry in flight.
🌳 Surrounding Environment
- Near green areas, trees, gardens, ponds, or waterways: bats hunt there!
- However, keep a clear flight path in front of the batbox (avoid branches or walls too close).
🧱 Support
- You can fix it on a wall, pole, or tree, but be careful:
- If you choose a tree, make sure there are no branches in front of the entrance.
- The walls of rural buildings, sheds, or barns are perfect.
🚫 Avoid noisy, illuminated, or too hot places
- No direct lights or night noises: bats are lovers of privacy!
