Boost Me (for free)

I really appreciate boosts.  Please do it! <3

I needed a scan table.  I already had the idea to use old cardboard spool as turning plate when I noticed the contest.  I had only 7 days to design this simple idea.  I did it!   Bullet points hints and infos :

  • There is an emplacement for a potentiometer if you want to implement variable speed.  I ended up not using a potentiometer because I realized that the speed can be adjusted with the set screw that fixes the motor in place.  If you make the motor to force slightly, the speed goes down and I believe the GIF video show optimal speed.
  • The 3D markers are 3D printed with an AMS and 3 colors.  I really like them!
  • The cardboard spool is a Polymaker spool.  Still, any old spool wil do.  The cover that covers the center bore of the spool is design for a 55mm center hole.  This can be easilly remixed though.
  • I did not use any resistor.  The DC motor is plugged directly to the 9V battery, witrh a switch is series.
  • Do not hesitate to ask me questions!  I usually reply fast.  I can also make simple modifications for you if you ask nicely.

You will need a few parts :
    =====================
  1. A DC motor.  This DC motor is very comon and you can by a few of them for very cheap.  I bought 6 of them for 15$ on Amazon. Here is a link : https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07BKXJM71?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title
  2. One or Two M3 heat inserts.  The electric motor needs to be fixed with a set screw (I used a standard M3 screw 13mm long).
  3. A 9V battery (Also works fine with a single AA battery or a single AAA battery, but the main plate is designed for a 9V battery)
  4. An On/Off switch…..still, this is not mandatory if you just turn it on with aligator wires on the 9V battery…  I used a comon size swith for the emplacement on the main plate.
  5. Glue.  For better printing results, the top intermediate gear is glued on top of the main gear.  It would be possible to print this whole hybrid gear with supports though….
  6. Three bering (608 berings, very comon). Outer diameter : 22mm - Inner diameter : 8mm - Thickness : 7mm

why are the gears so big? i dont really like that it should be possible to make more compact but i really like how this uses common parts and doesnt require a specific motor type

they are big to create the necessary torque whilst keeping friction low

Will it work just as well with PLA or PETG?

Yes. There's no reason why not. There isn't much heat or weight to consider. Go for it! 😎

Thanks a lot friend! I am under the impression that you'll get a 3D scanner in the VERY NEAR future 😉
