Description

Updated second generation models of my Gridfinity organizers for both ½" and ¼" shank bits!

Gen 2 organizers have more compliance than Gen 1 and work better for a wider range of bits from different manufacturers. They provide a lighter hold and are so much easier to insert and remove sharp router bits!

Models include dedicated ½ and ¼ shank holders as well as a dual holder.

I have only tested in Bambu PETG-HF and suggest 3 walls for strength and durability.

Print for yourself or use as inspiration to design your own!

Great models! I removed the size labeling on my size-specific prints. I hope to get around to posting a remix with magnet holes, and also would like to make variants to hold collets. This seems like the best router bit storage solution--you can have them all in a toolbox or drawer and then just grab the ones you need without them being loose.

Rather than remix, since there could be lots of variants, I'll just give some ideas of how I modified the models for my use. I increased the x-y scale of the opening on the 1/4" by +0.5%, which gives me a better (looser) fit with my printer/filament/bits. It was a little too tight at first, and I didn't want to struggle to remove the sharp bits. The 1/2" fits perfect as is. I added magnet holes, diameter 6.1mm, depth 2.4mm, and when printed with no supports, I get a really nice interference fit. I dropped the infill % down to compensate for the extra geometry around those holes. For labels, 9mm Epson black on clear labels work well. I thought about adding a recess for the labels but it doesn't seems worth it. Thanks again for the really nice models!

Great design for flexibility. Will you be releasing a version that has the spots for the 6x2mm magnets on the bottom?

I can do that for you! I don’t use those magnets myself, do you happen to know if 6mm x 2mm are the exact dimensions for a good press fit?

Thank you for the reply and unfortunately I am not sure about the actual hole size for press to fit. From what I have read everything for Gridfinity references 6mm x 2mm magnets and some videos recommend using superglue in the holes to keep the magnets in place.

I've added the print profile with magnet cutouts. I printed without support and it printed just fine. The actual cutout dimensions are 6.1mm x 2.2mm. I hope it works!

Hi JT_311! Great solution, really cool. I printed out both the 1/2 inch and the double holder version. Can you consider releasing a drawing for 8mm router bits? In Sweden, that is the dominant size of shank for router bits. Keep up the good work!

I've uploaded an 8mm version! Could you test it and let me know how well it works?

Hi JT_311! Thanks for taking the time to make a model for 8mm. I printed it out and I think it works well. I tested on several different 8mm router bits and they were easy to insert and remove. I forgot to mention that we also use 12mm router bits in Sweden if you also want to create a model for them. I can post info about your models on Swedish sites for hobby carpenters where I am a member, I think it will be appreciated. Keep up the good work!

if you lose a few mm from the centre ( making it overall the same height as the gen adapter version ) they work just as well and use 20% less filament :)

love these for my CNC router bits it would be amazing if there was a 3/8” diameter one a lot of my CNC bits are 3/8” shank and no one seems to make holders for them great build!!

Cool, but why no recess for a label from a label maker? Would be perfect if you could slap a label on each bit holder.
