MX5 Ultimate Doors Bushing

Bill of Materials
Description
Greetings, community! Like many Mazda MX-5 ND owners, I quickly noticed a problem with the original door bushings: too pliable, they eventually crush and no longer function correctly.
Conversely, online versions are often too rigid, making door closure difficult. In short, no perfect solution… so I decided to create my own!
My approach? Finding a balance between rigidity and flexibility for smooth closure and effective damping. I therefore designed these bushings using PETG-CF (for rigidity and strength) and TPU (to absorb shocks and prevent excessively firm closure).
Design & testing: After several prototypes and adjustments, I found the ideal combination. Result: modification-free installation, enhanced durability, and optimal functionality.
Have you also noticed this issue on your ND? Let me know what you think!
I utilized two materials to achieve optimal rigidity and flexibility balance:
• PETG-CF (carbon fiber reinforced PETG) for robust mechanical strength and heat resistance.
• TPU to allow for flexibility and shock absorption without hindering proper door closure.
• PLA, PETG, and PLA-CF yielded promising results, but I preferred using the best materials available.
Assembly instructions:
1. Remove the original bushings by unscrewing the two cross-head hex screws securing them.
2. Install the new bushings, ensuring proper alignment with the mounting points (tighten gently and close the door to allow them to settle).
3. Tighten securely with the original screws.
4. Verify smooth door closure and adjust as needed.
These parts have been tested and optimized for modification-free installation on the Mazda MX-5 ND and should be compatible with NA, NB, NC, and Fiat 124 models.
