Description

Inspired by the zeromouse, this is an ultralight mouse frame built for the Pulsar X2v2 (medium) board. Total weight is 27.6g with the battery + skates installed. I wanted a mouse that was as light as possible with super light clicks and this is near perfect.
 

My design has a few key features:

  • Mouse wheel support. Supports scrolling and clicking with a single tiny piece.
  • Added ‘wings’ to the finger grips which add 2 benefits:
    • Fingers no longer rub on the mouse pad, making it far more comfortable to use
    • the extra weight in the back moves the center of gravity to between the top of the grips. This means when lifting the mouse with pressure between the thumb and ring finger, the mouse will not want to rotate. If grip is further back, any rotation is negated by the pinky acting as a backstop to prevent rotation, allowing for a lighter grip overall.
  • Lowered mouse click position. The position of the left and right clicks were lowered significantly to match the lower finger grips. The higher relative scroll wheel position takes some getting used to. (I may look into printing a new one or finding a smaller wheel)
  • The mouse frame is quite rigid thanks to the back crossbeam and using the board itself to add stiffness at the grip points.

The print is designed to use the same screws as stock(1.5mm), however if you need wider holes for different screws simply adjust the xy hole compensation. I stripped mine after a couple dozen versions and have been using .25mm xy hole compensation to adjust for 2mm replacements without issue.

 

Move the battery to the back crossbeam for proper weight distribution, and use 7 x 6mm skates are used for the bottom. ( See photos)

 

NOTE: No option for side buttons at the moment.

 

Printed in PLA-CF for a softer more premium feel, any stiff material should work.

 

Supports required - tree recommended, I have blockers for the side grips. Wait for the print to fully cool before removing supports to avoid any flexing. Take care when removing the supports around the L/R clicks, its possible to snap at the curve. Take time to clean up the underside of the L/R clicks to make sure no other piece is interfering with the buttons. Use a small file very lightly to take material off if needed. Be gentle to avoid removing too much.

 

I've been using this for just over a week at the time of upload and I love it.

 

Assembly:

  • After parts are printed and supports removed, add the skates first while pressure can be added to both sides.
  • Follow this teardown guide of the x2v2 (medium is the same steps) to remove the board from the original body. Keep the 5 screws from the board.
    • Remove the battery connection to be safe.
  • Add the board from the back, tilting the front of the board down and under the L/R clicks, lifting slightly as needed. 
  • Move the board forward until it rests on the standoffs for the screw. 
  • Lightly screw one of the back screws into position.
    • Before tightening, make sure the board is positioned where the L/R clicks aren't interfering with the scroll wheel mechanism. 
    • When clearance is good, tighten it down and add the other corner screws.
  • Add the scroll wheel piece last. Carefully put the scroll wheel bar into the Scroll Piece hole as shown then screw it through the main board. 
    • Before full tightening down, make sure the scroll wheel is straight. 
  • Stick the battery back to the back crossbeam, plug it in and test. 

 

 

Ideas to test in the future: 

Can the liftoff distance/response be optimized for? 

Can a different scroll wheel be used/printed to make it more comfortable? 

How can the battery be better supported? 

Can the L/R Clicks be printed separately to remove the need for support? Does that make the clicks better/worse? 

Can side button support be added (Goal <32g)
