Description

I've been wanting to design this for a while, and here it is! A modular system for storying your filament. Don't be like me, though, and have it be full as soon as you build it. Plan in way more capacity than you think you need!

This uses ¾" EMC pipe. It is about $10/10' here for me from Lowes. I'd suggest making your horizontal members 5' in length, that way you can just cut one 10' pipe in half per row. Mine are 28.5" because I roughly cut the pipes in the store to fit in my car before I had fully fleshed out my plan. I'd recommend 11" spacing between rows, from the bottom of one horizontal bracket to the next.

This makes:

$10 per 5' row in pipe

$10 in filament/row brackets

+$4 for ~1' vertical distance between rows

$24 / 5' row of filament storage

You can store 21 rolls of filament in a single 5' row, so thats ~$1.14/roll of filament stored if your rows are 5' long.

(Plus ~ $6 total in filament for the feet and the toppers)

For the feet, I originally designed this with some EMC pipes to go through these “feet” brackets and give it a wider base. I found that I didn't need that as mine is stable enough at ~5' and full of filament. I didn't want it to be set out even further from the wall by designing a wider base. An alternative would be making some pieces that connect to the frame and anchor it to the wall. I have this in mind for a possible future version, but right now, I don't have any kids that could pull it down and get hurt!

I used self tapping screws to attach them to the pipes, and the whole thing feels very, very sturdy. I'm very pleased with it, again, except for not making my rows wider! I might end up rebuilding mine.

I printed mine with Bambu ABS, but you might could get away with using PLA or PETG for this too. The ABS has been more than strong enough for me.
