Description

Explanation

This is a super simple dust/water cap I designed for my old Trek bike. I replaced the crank bearings a few weeks ago and realized the dust caps were made of deteriorating old plastic. One of the caps broke, so I thought I could design a simple replacement one. I've included the .step file and the physical dimensions if anyone is interested in redesigning or improving it. Also, if you do design your own, pay attention to the inner diameter because I spent a lot of time troubleshooting the design only to find out that there wasn't enough clearance for the internal bolt.

Installation

After printing 1 or 2 remove the old dust cap and slowly hand thread the cap into the slot until it catches. This avoids cross threading and damaging the part. Then come in with a Phillips head or flat head (preferred) screwdriver and tighten, taking care not to overtighten.
