Heroscapey/D&D Hex Terrain Tiles (No Supports)

Summary

These are designed to be a bit “loose” when you just put two together, this actually isn't a design problem but a feature.

For one, I tried to make these very compatible with official tiles which are a bit loose on purpose. The main reason is because it makes them easier to dissemble by pulling them horizontally apart and pack away.

If that's not your taste, luckily it's somewhat adjustable by modifying the layer height. The LARGER the layer height the more friction there is (also makes them print faster). The lower the layer height, the smoother they glide together. I currently only provide one print profile but you get the idea

You see, I tried to 3D print Heroscape tiles but always ran into the problem that they have a huge "overhang" that is the hollow bottom.

Tried these, they are all bad options in my opinion:

1. No Supports? kind of works on 1x1 tiles but for fails for anything bigger
2. Print it up-side-down (this ruins the pretty stuff on the top, still requires supports for the teeth and other spots)
3. Support the Bottom - Works the best out of the other options but is super hard to remove AND waste time/filament which adds up since you need like ~100+ of these things to play the game.
4. Give up and buy the starter set - Almost did this, but really wanted to learn to 3D model stuff so, you're welcome 😉

So I decided to make a "5th" option which is to print the top part and the toothy base part separately. Problem was there was no way to slice existing files this way using the Bambu slicer.

Reimagining

So what I really wanted was to print the top separate from the base. this small idea has a bunch of benefits:

Benefits of separation:

1. No supports!
2. Prints in about ~17min per tile (on Bambu A1)
3. You can mix and match the tops
4. You can make the top/bottom different colors with NO AMS or mutli-color printer
5. You can stack-print them in bulk (I don't include a print profile currently, but technically have got it to work. 

I did a BUNCH (probably about 50) of prints using other heroscape-like tiles (but not real ones yet) so they should fit

Printer: A1 is the one I've tested on, but I'm sure all the Bambu ones will work

After Printing

Just snap the top part into the base and it should be pretty snug! The tops can be flipped over if you like, they fit both ways but normally I print with the bottom on the base plate.
