Masky: Your little tape buddy

Meet Masky.

The little guy’s only 24g and lives to tear stuff.

Masky clips onto any standard 3" (75mm) roll of masking tape and handles the job like a pro. No more mangled edges or digging for the tape end like an animal. Just clean, straight tears and a roll that’s always locked and loaded. Update 2026-01-31: Print profile for plastic tapes has been added! Also - check out Masky Blade for rubbery tapes like electrical tape and super clean cuts!

Universal fit. Any tape width up to the printed size. 

Printing Tips

PETG is ideal for its flex, but PLA is fine too. Masky can get a little dramatic and try to warp off the bed if your adhesion’s average. Use glue stick or a brim if he misbehaves.

Source Models

Fusion and STEP files are included. The Fusion file is fully parametric, so feel free to tweak as needed.

Holding Masky (a PSA)

If the roll feels choppy or weird, you might be holding it wrong.
(cue Steve Jobs voice: "You're holding it wrong.")

Use your index and middle fingers behind Masky’s cutter on either side of the roll. That grip gives just the right pressure for a smooth, consistent roll.

Lube Tip

You have a 3D printer, so you should have some silicone PTFE grease ("Super Lube" or similar). Adding a drop onto Masky's rail will make him spin smoother around the roll. It's completely not necessary, but a nice little improvement. Just look how happy this little guy is getting lubed up.

V1.5 - 2025-04-06: Masky's serration is now twice as sharp; Masky is a little less grippy on the roll; Masky is slightly larger to accommodate larger rolls.

V2.0 - 2025-08-10: Alright alright. Masky now clips onto rolls so he won't easily fall off. Enjoy! Original files still available for those who like to live life on the edge.

V2.1 - 2026-01-31: Inspired by Tapesy, Masky now has another variant with much fewer serrations (3x). This is worse for paper tapes (like masking tapes), but it works with packing tapes and other plastic tapes! Does NOT work for rubber tapes like electrical tape. For that - Masky Blade is a better option. Added new print profile. Added new Fusion model with serration parameter (Notch_Spacing).
