Description
Ceratopsian Nest—Parametric Pen Holder |
Firstly, a closed cylindrical finite element structural mesh was generated using an open-source algorithm termed “Lizard”
Secondly, the base structure, predicated on this finite element mesh, proved unsuitable for printing parameters. Therefore, perforations were incorporated into the base, concurrently fulfilling the requirement of accommodating small items
Thirdly, a framework of mesh lines generated cylindrical tubes, interconnected with smoothly contoured edges, approximating the structure of an animal's webbed foot
Fourthly, this resulted in a parametric pen holder based on a cylindrical finite element mesh
Inspired by the algorithm's namesake, the reptile, which in classical Chinese texts is elegantly termed “Guardian Palace,” scaling walls and eaves, symbolizing the protection of domestic dwellings:
①Guarding and Aversion of Evil
②Loyalty and Protection
③Wealth and Good Fortune
④Nature and Ecology
⑤Physical and Mental Well-being, Longevity
However, I did not wish to name it “Guardian Palace,” as it might still evoke associations with lizards
Book of Han: Biography of Dongfang Shuo describes the lizard as resembling a dragon but lacking horns, a snake yet possessing legs; hence, the appellation “hornless dragon” also exists, though not particularly euphonious. Consequently, I have named it “Ceratopsian,” imbuing it with a sense of mystery reminiscent of ancient mythical beasts from the Shan Hai Jing. Its mesh structure resembles a nest, therefore, the final designation is 【Ceratopsian Nest】
