Description

Top Element for Filament Storage Rack

I love my filament storage rack from Brownbear. However, it looked unfinished to me since it is an extendable, stackable system. I designed a matching element to be used as the top layer.

The top element is tested and in use with v2 of the rack system. According to the description of the original creation, it should be compatible with both v1 as well. It provides the following benefits in combination with the original model:

  • The same honeycomb design and measurements for pole holes
  • Element high enough to guarantee stability toward the side

Use

  • Print two (or more if you have a wider rack with a middle support) to be used as the top layer of your rack
  • Set up along the other rack elements

Filament

  • 176.79g of PLA Matte filament per set of 4 (Bambu Lab 11100 PLA Matte Ivory White)
  • approx. 4h print time

Excellent design and print. I printed it 8 levels high, with PETG. I printed bushing and used 3/4" Schedule 40 PVC.

I will be printing off your tops for the rack, but I am curious, how thick did you make your end caps for the dowels? They are simple enough to quickly design them in Fusion 360, but I am curious how thick you made them to make sure the countersunk is deep enough.

The total thickness of the piece is 9mm. 4mm for the exterior disc to match the design of the connector pieces and 5mm that go into the hole. I have sent you the design file in private. You can easily adjust the supported screw type using it.

Hi! Would it be possible for you to post the end cap you created? Yours seems to be the best-looking version out there. Many thanks in advance!
