Kumiko woodworking is a traditional Japanese woodworking technique involving intricate patterns and designs using thin pieces of wood that are carefully cut, fitted, and joined together without using nails or glue. The method is most commonly used in constructing shoji screens, latticework, and other decorative elements in traditional Japanese architecture. The term “Kumiko” refers to the small wooden pieces used in the technique.

This dovetail sliding box lid was hand-designed in Fusion 360. I took great care in designing the pattern for the lid to get all the angles and lengths precisely right. I now have two versions of this box:

Original, measures: 150x75x50 mm (LxWxH) with 4 mm thick walls.
Medium, measures: 165x160x50 mm (LxWxH) with 4 mm thick walls. Designed by request.
Large, measures: 230x230x120 mm (LxWxH) with 4 mm thick walls. Designed by request.

The box in the pictures was printed with Creality Wood PLA - White Pine.

This printed perfectly. I wanted a dice tray I could also use to separate my dice. I was able to scale to desired size, edit the file and add a partition for my pencils & marker, then separately design a removable insert for my dice. This way, they are organized and the lid keeps them from moving between compartments. When I'm ready to play, I can remove the organizer and use the container as a dice tray. The dovetail design is brilliant and allows the lid to close with a secure fit that doesn't move around until you want it to. Happily boosted!

Could it be made larger, perhaps 23 cm wide, 23 cm long, and 12 cm high

That's a mighty big box, almost the entire print bed of my X1C. Let me see what I can do, just be aware that warping may be an issue at this size.

Okay, I've made the design changes you asked for, but I need to print and photograph it before I can upload the new print profile. I am currently printing a new prototype for a different design, but I will start this print afterward. I hope to have the new profile up in the next day... maybe two.

I imported the large box in to bambu studio, to fit the bottle i was gifting. added some battery operated string lights, and tissue paper to cover the bottle and it was a hit! 10/10. unfortunately I didn't get a picture of thr final product but this was an excellent model and was fairly easy to scale in bambu great job designer!

I love this box it is so pretty! The next one i try i will try and flip the lid so that i can use my decorative plates and have it show that way - wasn't sure it would work and needed these 2 to be perfect.
