Description
Mercury Redstone Rocket 1:200 scale
This is the rocket and capsule used to launch the first US Astronaut, Alan Shephard, into space on December 9, 1960.
From Wikipedia:
The Mercury-Redstone Launch Vehicle, designed for NASA's Project Mercury, was the first American crewed space booster. It was used for six sub-orbital Mercury flights from 1960–1961; culminating with the launch of the first, and 11 weeks later, the second American (and the second and third humans) in space. The four subsequent Mercury human spaceflights used the more powerful Atlas booster to enter low Earth orbit.
It is printed at 1:200 scale to match other manned spacecraft models that can be found in my Public Collection at https://makerworld.com/en/collections/5334821-rockets.
There are two plates. I would recommend printing the 1st one unless you want to use a 0.2mm nozzle (which I haven't tried). The first one leaves off the red “UNITED STATES” lettering on the side of the rocket. I tried it and it really didn't turn out very well with the 0.4mm nozzle. But if you want to try it, by my guest.
This is a fairly delicate model. Be VERY careful removing the supports around the fins, as they can break off very easily. The nameplate can be glued to the base if you want to (I used CA glue).
I took the original model, painted it in Studio, and created the stand in Studio as well.
