POSTPROCESSING& ASSEMBLY

Recommended tools:

 

Removing outer brim (mid & top sections) - important! You need to do this for smooth thread operation. This part of the model is not visible from the outside. If your thread is still tight, try to give it a 1-minute spin (back and forth) to help wear it out a bit.

 

Removing support (mid sections) - smash it! And double-check that no support residue remains inside the battery slots. Any leftover supports might prevent battery insertion and could damage the outer shell (especially risky for batteries like 18650!).

 

Removing inner brim (bottom sections) - use precision knife or toothpick to break the supports. Very detailed instructions on how to do this for very small text are inside the D BATTERY - UNIVERSAL BATTERY STORAGE description.

 

⚠️CONSIDERATIONS & PRINT PROFILE IMPROVEMENTS⚠️

The staighThe straight D-type container design is from an early prototyping stage. It is not available in this pattern, sorry!

Through extensive prototyping, I found that the best print quality is achieved by:

  • Outer wall speed has been slowed down to maximize surface quality and achieve a glossy effect (especially noticeable with shiny filaments).
  • I used PLA+ for better thread durability. Be aware: it may cause minor sagging on the lower chamfer (shouldn’t occur with standard PLA, as it has a 45° overhang).
  • Print sequence is set to “Print by Object” — ensuring consistent threading and excellent outer shell finish.
  • Thread sections are fully solid for structural integrity (this ensures the model can withstand stacking when fully loaded with batteries)
  • To balance quality and print time, I used a 0.28 mm layer height — sturdy and time-efficient!
  • A/18650 cap: For the best results, print them upright (top facing up - requires more supports, not necessary).

I've noticed that some 18650 batteries come with paper labels on the plastic wrap. This extra paper layer can increase the battery diameter by up to 1mm! As a result, you might have a tough time fitting particularly thick 18650 cells with thick labels.

Standard 18650s, where the data is printed directly on the plastic wrap (without extra paper), fit perfectly without issues.

 

I’ve personally tested the fit for most battery types included in this model, but not all of them. Some of the holders are based solely on standardized dimension norms, as I’ve never had a need to use certain battery types daily. However, I still wanted to give you the option to store them!
