Description

Introducing the ERDS V0.2! AKA the “Emergency Response Door Stop”!

 

I was requested by my sister-in-law to create a door stopper that she could use while on duty as a police officer. I based my design on other products that she showed me online, but added my own spin and features to try and make it unique. The main design goal of the ERDS was to create something that is easy to deploy when entering a building to ensure doors stay open for other first responders to be able to follow quickly, while also being simple to store in their belt and easy to remove when leaving a scene (in addition to being easy to print).

 

The ERDS is currently in testing with a number of officers to see if there are any improvements that I could make to it. As it stands, the model is designed to be printed out of TPU for AMS, or any slightly stiffer TPU variants. I found that the TPU for AMS actually offered the perfect amount of flexibility and toughness, while maintaining it's overall ease of use. My tests with 95A TPU found it to be far too flexible, however I'm sure adjusting infill and wall settings would affect the print in ways I have not tested yet.

 

Main features of ERDS V0.2:

  • Designed to fit most standard thickness doors in North America. Maintains a tight grip on the door while also being easy to attach and remove.
  • Slight taper to the top side allows for use as a standard door stop under the door, assuming the gap is large enough for it to fit.
  • Narrow enough to fit over the hinge assembly of most doors.
  • Easy to remove using the paracord strap to ensure that exits are as quick as entries.
  • Tough, flexible TPU to ensure long life and easy use.

As this is still a prototype for me and things may change as I hear back from those testing it for me, I'll try and keep this updated as new versions or changes come out!

NinjaFlex Snow White TPU 85A infill: 40% gyroid walls: 4 works as intended but its just to low for european doors other then that perfect on the side mount it stay’s on pretty good but in a real world senario i would jam the hinge

My son (police officer) was going to purchase some of these on Amazon. I said let me see what's available. I printed a few of these with Bambulab TPS for AMS and they turned out great. He loved them! Well Done!

Great idea! Simple and universal! I used Eryone's standard TPU (probably 95A) and printed it with 6 walls and 25% infill. Thanks for sharing :)
