IKEA Nymane Shade

I use the IKEA Nymane lamp for reading both physical books and my e-reader. While reading physical books, I can easily direct the light as needed. However, when using an e-reader, the reflective screen limits positioning options. To achieve optimal lighting, I often have to place the lamp in a way that also illuminates my eyes, which can be distracting.

To solve this, I designed a custom shade that fits into the IKEA Nymane casing and can be adjusted as needed. This modification improves reading comfort by directing light precisely where it's needed, reducing glare and minimizing distractions.

There are two shades in this model: 

• regular
• asymmetrical

I use asymmetrical, since it is better for my e-reader use, but I've included also the regular one as it could be useful.

EDIT (2026-05-24):

I've added new print profile / new version of this model which:

• Better fits in the lamp (longer insert part)
• Has shorter short side of asymmetrical shade - sometimes reflection of light on short side could be noticed on original model depending on lamp orientation
• Has a bit wider shell and 80% infill so that it is more uniform and less transparent if you print it in other color (black PLA has zero transparency, but I've also printed in sunflower yellow and it makes nice warm orange ambient light due to transparency - it’s hard to capture in a picture - it looks much better in person).
