Description

Per request this is a huge version of my expandable playmat tube. It is still both expandable to work with any sized playmat and also printable on every printer. The inner diameter is 100 mm (just under 4 inches) and each piece adds 150 mm of internal length. This is meant for your table sized playmat.

The middle piece prints with an inner brim to help with bed adhesion as it has to print on the rim of the open tube. There are 3 plates. One One with the top. One with the bottom piece. Lastly one with the middle which you can  print multiple times for an extra long tube.

Scaled it down 75% to hold my root playmats and the top and bottom came out great in matte pla. I'm getting a lot of stringing trying to print the middle sections (around the screw overhang) so I've turned it upside down and I'm printing with supports

I love the drop cap you added. I think scaling it down did something subtle that caused the issues (my guess would be with the threads). I'm glad you got it working either way.

This is what was happening if you're curious. The supports might not be necessary but I've added them just in case

Was the male end in the build plate by default? It shouldn't be. I always print with the female end on the plate with an inner brim. Did you use one of the profiles?

Similar to user @user_3193736694, after printing each end and 2 middle pieces was about 2 inches too short. So I cut up a middle piece in Bambu Studio and made a 61mm middle piece to print for the Battle / Game Mat I got via Amazon a few months ago, that is super tight to get back into it's original container. I printed the tube as it was, no resizing, and I think it will work perfectly to solve the issue I had. Thank you for the model. Printed with: iSANMATE PLA - Black, Geeetech Silk PLA - Copper, and eSUN PLA - Fire Engine Red.

Did you resize the tube? Looks like the walls are too thin

It will be much easier to scale this other one up than to scale this one down. https://makerworld.com/en/models/1152580-expandable-playmat-tube#profileId-1156996

Excellent design! Also, very easy to add a logo (I'll be using it to keep big concrete drills; will add middle parts until I get to 1 meter :) ) - Made with red ABS. Thanks!!

I never would have expected it to be used for concrete drill bits. That's awesome! I love putting a logo on the bottom too, it's so little waste

Getting bigger :) Same ABS, but black now, so I'll know where to open :) . And yeah, being a strong piece of design, it makes sense to use it for bits. And the concrete ones are big, and dusty...

Nearly a meter long! fits our war gaming mats perfectly and finally they won't be just pushed into a corner. the black strip was a complete accident. I thought I had enough of the brown to do one more section while I waited for the new role to arrive. I was wrong but it looks kind of cool with a little black.

It may be accidental, but it does look good!

Okay, that was a significant print. Lots of filament, oof. The playmat I was aiming to hold was 24.5 inches, and so 2 middle tubes wasn't enough. It was short like an inch or so and really didn't want a 3rd middle tube. So I used the cut tool in Bambu Studio the cut off 22mm off the top of a middle tube, flipped it, and cut another 50mm off the bottom. Reflipped the bottom and merged the two, to make a 72mm shorty middle tube spacer that increased inner length by 50mm (threads are ~22mm). This worked perfectly, giving me just that two more inches with an inch of oversize, instead of like 4-5 inches too big with another full size middle. Anyway, easy bug quite large print. I pretty much spent a whole spool to make my upper/lower/2-middles/1-custom-spacer.

Fantastic design, boosted. Printed in PETG and came out really nice. Just wish there were few height versions of middle tube. I'm missing 5cm for my playmat, but to fit it I will need to print 15cm long tube. Wish I could save some filament and space and let's print 5cm middle part instead.

Fantastic design, one of the best out there for playmats. Would love to see one with a 68mm interior diameter (fit a playmat and printed life counters/dice containers). I also thing it would be fun to have one that had flat sides to keep it from rolling off the table. Thanks for the fun project!

if you take the regular expandable tube and scale it up about 30% it will be about right

In regards to something that doesn't roll I am part way through making an octagonal tube but it's really hard to make sure the side line up when screwed together.

I modified this for the two player Gamegenic playmats and uploaded that profile if you want to throw tags for Star Wars Unlimited or Gamegenic on here.

I have yet to try the supertack plates. Did they work really well for printing without the brim?

They work TOO well sometimes, I have broken multiple printed scrapers trying to remove prints, and sometimes individual strands come loose from the print. Overall, much better not having to worry about adhesion.
