Description

DIY Water Heater Leak Barrier – Interlocking, Easy-to-Print Design for 20” Heaters (PETG Recommended)

I designed this interlocking 3D-printed barrier for a 20-inch diameter gas water heater to help detect early water leaks. It’s ideal for basements without a drain pan and is an easy DIY solution.

Let me know if you want the STEP file or any other sizes. I can easily change in Onshape.

✅ Features:

• Interlocking 8-inch sections for easy assembly

• 12mm high and 12mm wide with a tapered outer edge to prevent tripping

• Small flanges for better silicone adhesion

• Printed in yellow PETG for higher visibility and better temperature resistance

• Secured to the floor with clear silicone caulking

• Designed in Onshape and customizable

💡 Why Use This?

• Early leak detection when paired with a simple water sensor.

• Perfect for water heaters without a drain pan.

• Modular design makes it adaptable to other sizes.

🔧 Assembly Tips:

• Use clear silicone caulking to secure the barrier and seal joints.

• Test-fit interlocking sections before final assembly.

• Position a water sensor inside the barrier for early detection.

Feel free to remix or improve the design. If you find it helpful, give it a like or share your results.
