Description

This is a replacement for the throat inserts on the DW717 Dewalt 10" sliding compound miter saw. Simply swap this solid insert in for the two half-inserts that come in the box. Make a slow cut through this plate, and then clean up the edge with a razor.

I recommend printing in a bright color for safety and visibility.

Notes - v1.0:

  • It prints in two halves with an interlocking joint, but I also recommend adding CA glue to eliminate the possibility of vibration
  • Both halves each have 3 of the 6 screw holes, again to minimize vibration
  • There is an 8mm 100% infill spine running through the center to provide extra support after slot has been cut

Thanks for sharing. Nice solution to the size issue. I had to fettle them quite a bit to get a flush fit - meaning how the two halves join - tho. Could do with some tweaking to the model to improve that. I printed in 0.2 and .12 heights trying different things and used supports for the overhangs. New life to the old saw fits like a glove ...

Does the 100% infill spine cover bevel cuts as well or should I be beefing that up some? Also, curious if you're going to make some sort of dust collection for this model as well.

Was just thinking about this today. No the spine wouldn’t cover bevel cuts. Might want to just print 100% infill for bevel cuts. For dust collection, there’s a large ellipse cut out of the back and I was hoping that would focus the dust into the collection port. Happy to hear suggestions

Perfect, thanks for letting me know, I'm printing this up for someone that has this saw. I just so happen to have a suggestion! If you wander over to Cults3d, and look up "DEWALT MITER SAW DUST SHROUD/COLLECTION", there's a single hit. That's for the DWS715, single bevel, 12". But, conceptually? Looks pretty doable. Some thoughts though. 1) The vacuum port would have to be movable and switchable to the other side because I don't see how it wouldn't impede going the opposite direction pictured. 2) It would be good to have a slot in / slide in (and locked in place with a wood screw) printed sacrificial square for different cuts etc. The other option is mounting to the actual blade area. Google for "shopnationstore" and they have an excellent lineup of products for Bosch and Dewalt (but not this model, I think they only have 12" saws, and only some of them, supported) for some thoughts on that.

I thought I was the only one alive that uses this saw. I haven't been able to find anything for this saw, until now. I would love to see someone smarter than me come up with an improved dust collection system, since this saw is the worst I have used. I run it with a cyclone and shop vac and it still only gets about 10% of the dust.

Don't like joining parts a lot if I do not have to. Would you have this plate as a single file? If so would you share it? My printer is large enough, thanks.

I can’t upload a print profile, but I can point you to the CAD model you can export and print. I just created a version that’s one piece here: https://cad.onshape.com/documents/149b4167180bdff85daf60d3/w/1b764cc572bbdf5d026daadc/e/04f47e3d6fcc1072fbc24769?renderMode=0&uiState=687c57fa1ca3172109ca697b

let me know how it goes!!! this was my original design. it wasn’t until orca couldn’t fit it on a plate in any orientation that I had to change it. I’m also intermittently working on a better dust collection hood for the same saw. if you are interested check back in a couple weeks or so :)

do you have a print for the cm10gd?

sadly I do not have that tool, so I don’t have the measurements required to 3D model one.
