Inspiration & Challenges

This design’s inspiration stemmed from a polymer clay artwork (we are enthusiastic polymer clay hobbyists ourselves) Unfortunately, we are unaware of the original artist—should you possess any leads, please aid us in providing proper attribution The original work utilized springs for its press mechanism, but we opted for mechanical keyboard switches for their tactile "click" and satisfying auditory feedback

Problem: The switch’s actuation distance measures only 3.8mm, yet the mushroom necessitates an 11mm rise Pressing the switch would not fully expose the mushroom

Solution: After countless sleepless nights, a revelation dawned—a “mechanically disadvantaged” lever system By precisely calculating pivot points, we transmuted 3.8mm of actuation into 11mm of mushroom elevation Gravity then ensures the mushroom's automatic reset

7 Days of Immersive Creation

From inception to final model, we dedicated 7 days to iterative refinement:

  • Precision Engineering: Optimized lever ratios for seamless motion
  • Minimalist Assembly: A cleverly partitioned design minimizes supports and simplifies printing
  • Acoustic Tuning: Noise attenuation for a crisp, clear click
  • Hidden Mechanics: Elegant aesthetics with all mechanisms subtly concealed

Key Innovations

⚙️ Core Technological Advancements

  • Leverage Mastery: 3.8mm input → 11mm mushroom elevation
  • Dual Return Mechanism: Lever mechanics + gravity-assisted reset
  • Silent & Smooth Operation: Noise-dampened, friction-optimized
  • Support-Free Printing: User-friendly assembly

Final User Experience
Press → Crisp keyboard “click” → Mushroom ascends → Automatic reset!

Your support means the world to us—thank you for valuing creativity above mere scale! And to the Makerworld team, we hope our dedication speaks volumes!

The inspiration for this design originated from a polymer clay sculpture, a medium we also greatly enjoy However, we remain uncertain of the original artist’s identity—should you possess any information, please assist us in giving credit where credit is due! The original piece employed springs for its compression mechanism Fortunately, I had several spare mechanical keyboard switches at hand These switches provide a delightful tactile response and crisp sound, offering a profoundly satisfying user experience, so I decided to utilize them as the core compression mechanism However, a challenge immediately arose Measurements revealed the switch's actuation distance to be approximately 3.8mm, while the mushroom’s height is around 11mm This disparity presented a critical issue: the limited actuation distance would prevent the mushroom from fully rising

This problem initially proved quite daunting, occupying my thoughts even during sleep But inspiration often strikes unexpectedly I conceived of using a “lever principle”, specifically a “disadvantageous lever” to overcome this obstacle Employing this lever, we could convert a 3.8mm actuation into an 11mm mushroom elevation Furthermore, upon release, the combined action of the lever and gravity would automatically reset the mushroom Subsequently, we calculated and determined the lever's optimal pivot point and proceeded with modeling During the modeling process, we consistently refined the design through iterative disassembly, component separation, and design adjustments, striving for optimal simplicity in printing, reduced support requirements, enhanced smoothness, noise reduction, and improved aesthetics

The entire process, encompassing ideation, design, modeling, testing, and optimization, spanned seven days, demanding significant time and effort We hope this design provides an exceptional user experience, bringing you the same joy it afforded us We also hope you will confidently support our work through Boost Tokens Additionally, we earnestly request a fair assessment from the review team, ensuring our project is not misjudged Thank you all!

Below is a pictorial tutorial using the gold coin version (Video tutorial forthcoming)

1 First, print all parts included in the file You will also need a mechanical keyboard switch

The following is a picture and text tutorial, using the gold coin version as a demonstration (video tutorial to be updated)

1 First, print all the parts in the file, and you will also need to prepare a mechanical keyboard switch, which is the switch I tested https://e.tb.cn/h.TwiVi9ZzesF8YYB?tk=0pmCeOBTBeV

2 Locate the small notches on the base designed to house the two fulcrums

2 Take out the base and find the two small notches for the fulcrums

3 Align the two levers with the corresponding notches and insert them

3 Align the two levers with the two pivot notches and insert them

4 Insert the mechanical keyboard switch into the central square groove

4 Take out the mechanical keyboard switch body and put it into the square groove in the middle

5 Locate the rectangular notch on the underside of the lid

5 Take out the lid and find the rectangular notch underneath

6 Align one of the transparent lifting components with the rectangular notch and install it (Note 502 adhesive is recommended)

6 Take out one of the transparent lifting components and align it with the rectangular notch to install it (Note Using 502 glue is better)

7 Position the gold coin face up and adhere it to the transparent component using 502 adhesive (Note Ensure the two small protrusions on the transparent component align with the gold coin’s numerals)

7 Face up the gold coin, use 502 to stick it with the transparent component (Note The two small bumps of the transparent component are facing the same as the gold coin number)

8 Align the assembled combination towards the switch and place it at the end of the longer lever, that is, the lower end of the lever

8 Put the pasted combination in the direction of the shaft body and put it at the end of the longer lever, that is, the side with the lowest lever

9 Align the assembled lid so the end of the transparent module aligns with the shortest end of the lever (the highest point); the gold coin aligns with the top opening of the “question mark”; and the switch aligns with the central lid opening Firmly install all three components

9 Take out the combined cover, and align the end of the transparent module with the shortest end of the lever, that is, the highest part of the lever; The gold coin is aligned with the opening at the top of the “question mark”; The shaft body is aligned with the lid in the middle; The three are aligned and installed firmly into it

10 Installation complete ~ Press down to raise the gold coin and release to allow it to return to its resting position The mechanism will become smoother with repeated use

10 The installation is successful ~ press down, the gold coin can be raised, and let go can be fallen It will be smoother to play a few more times~
