Meet the "Handheld Cartridges Storage"👋

I have a lot of loose retro games for GameBoy and GameGear and some other consoles. I looked online for storage solutions for a while, but was never satisfied. Printed racks I downloaded pinched the carts too hard, leaving faint marks. I also wanted a closed box, to protect cartridges from UV light and yellowing, but also sometimes for carrying.

I decided to create my own solution while learning CAD, and publish it for all game collectors. I hope you enjoy them. 🙇

2026-04-14 - v3-rev05 - Corrected minor errors on "ds-guitar-grip", "ds3ds-bigboy". Corrected a small but impactful error on "ds3ds-pico" that could make the box difficult to open.

2026-03-24 - v3-rev04 - Added "ds-guitar-grip", "gba-bigboy-withcase", "gbgbc-bigboy-withcase", "gg-bigboy", "gg-bigboy-withcase". Reduced infill to 16%. Removed STL files, keeping only 3MF, to reduce release size.

2025-12-26 - v3-rev03 - Added "gba-withcase", "gba-special-pico", "gbgbc-camera-pico".

2025-11-08 - v3-rev02 - Corrected an error on the sliced plates.

2025-09-11 - v3-rev01 - Added "gba-pico", "gba-bigboy", "gbgbc-pico", "gbgbc-bigboy", "ds3ds-bigboy" models. Now at 26 storage types.

2025-08-02 - Version 3 (rev00) of all models. Better locking of tray, tighter rails with less wobble. Added a "switch-bigboy" model.

2025-05-03 - Version 2 with locking system.

2025-02-17 - All v1 models (17 storage types).

2024-01-21 - Initial release (GB/C, GBA, GameGear).

v1 and v2 models are incompatible with v3. Older model versions are still avaiblable in case you need to print a replacement part.

Storage features📐

All storages are made of a box, and a drawer. Each drawer can usually fit 10 loose games for standard cartridges size (may vary for special carts). Each game slot should hold the cartridge without pinching, or scraping the carts. Each slot is also made to never rub against the cart label. A small "UP" text with an arrow is visible on the front of drawer, with a bottom text describing the type of carts it can hold. A groove on each side of the box enables you to grab the drawer front to open it.

No screw, magnet or anything else is needed for these models. It's designed to be simple and cheap to print and use.

There are numerous models, for your every need. Values in this table may vary with your print settings and are indicative only. Models labeled UNTESTED mean I didn't print them. They should work as they respect other models dimensions and are just slight reworks, but print with caution.

Extra files🕹️

Some extra files are provided and are completely optional.

"switch-tabs" : Sorting tabs for Switch storages. Just simple tabs the size of a cart, for alphabetical sorting and more.

Printing tips (important, do not skip this)🚨

Most prints can be made on printers with a volume as small as 150x150x150mm. BigBoy model sizes can be bigger!

Modeling was made for FDM printers, using PLA. Untested with anything else!

A modern printer will have the best results (think those newer Core XY models). Tolerances are tighter in v3 so you may want to print a small model first, like "switch-pico", to be sure your printer is calibrated correctly.

Recommended print settings are as follow :

0,4mm nozzle
0,2mm layers
2 walls
Detect thin walls enabled
16% infill, cubic, gyroid or honeycomb
No supports
A brim is optional but could prevent warping on bigger models!

Boxes should be printed upright, like a vase. Drawers are printed flat.

If your printer is a bed slinger then the drawer must be printed with the front parallel to the bed axis, to minimize wobble. Else the drawer front may be skewed.

Let your prints fully cool down before assembly of drawer and box. This will prevent unwanted deformations on tabs and pegs for the locking mechanism.

The first time you close the box, it may be a bit hard to open depending on model size and your printer calibration, because of the locking system. You need to work it gently a few times before it gets better! In case it's still hard to open, gently use a file on the drawer locking pegs, and progress slowly, checking if it fits.

I don't sell storages myself as I don't have the time to manage that. Feel free to ask your local 3D print creators to print those models for you. The licence (CC BY-SA) does not restrict them to sell prints, but they still need to give credit! It's a pretty permissive licence.

It can be a bit hard to open the first few times, but it will ease out. Different printers with different calibrations and tolerance make this hard to account for in modeling, a difference of 0,1mm can be huge on the locking tabs. If needed, you can very lightly sand the pegs on the tray to make opening a bit easier.

I may try to make a model next time, but the problem with GBA cases is Nintendo never made official ones. And so unofficials can have small differences in size, they are not "standard". I will look into it, but don't expect anything soon.

Other Issues:Impossible to open... The system closes too much for such a simple box. EDIT: Resized to 99.5% on the X-axis of the drawer, and it's perfect.

Hello. Did you check the description ? It is said you need to work it a few times, because it can depend on your printer calibration. If needed, you can use a nail file and go slowly on the locking pegs.

How can I work it a few times if I can't open it at least once ? Now It's broken cause that was the only way to open it. I've started again the drawer with smaller X size, so the lockin will be not so strong

Did you also let it fully cool down before assembly? There is not much wiggle room and if the tray was still a bit warm, it can lock it because of material dilatation. I suggest printing a new drawer at normal size, wait 30 minutes after print is finished, give a small pass of nail file on the pegs, and assemble the parts.

I printed the Switch 2 maxi and the drawer does not fit in the frame and my games don’t fit in the slots. The dimensions are off. I’m super bummed but will try the bigger one that has a 5 star review to see if that one works.

You used an older version (v3-rev01) where there were errors on the sliced plates. The front of the drawer says VITA here? Sorry, this was corrected in v3-rev02 on the 8th of november 25. Please download and use the latest files. EDIT : Seems like MakerWorld didn't accept the corrected version of the plate back then. I uploaded it again, and this one should work. Sorry you had this problem.

Can you make a Big one with case got GB/GBC/GBA/GG? Ran in to a deal with cases, so now i got a bunch that i cant use atm. Love the cases, just a bit rough to open.

Great design overall! My only nitpick (and it’s probably just me being picky because I have very short nails) is that the drawers can be a bit tricky to open. For me personally, having some kind of handle or pull on the front would make it much easier.

It's not just mislabeled, it's the wrong model. I just uploaded a fix, the error was only in the slice profile. Sorry for this and thanks for the info!
