Description

After searching around for a few hours, I found this model of the Sun Sword from Curse of Strahd from /u/Akoloutheo77 on reddit. Without a doubt the best looking model I could find.

  • Added a model of a rod to combine the pieces together.
    • Optionally, you can buy a 200mm X 10mm Steel hex rod (I got mine from AliExpress for ~$8 total). This gives the sword a good heft, and helps balance it in the hand.
  • Added some jewel models to go into the Pommel and main “guard”.

For the guard, I recommend just printing it as slowly as possible. There's a lot of small parts (text, the sharper points on the lower “quills”, etc.) and it comes out great at 50% speed. You might be able to tune your settings to get it a bit cleaner, but I was more than satisfied with just lowering the speed.

I really like that silver and gold! What brand/type of filament are you using? I have yet to find a metal filament that I've been 100% happy with.

I got the Silver is Giantarm Silk Silver from Amazon, and I think the Gold was Bambu Gold Silk.

Very cool design! My players are going to love it. I did have to print the blade at 96% to get it to fit. I printed the gems with resin.

Superb model! Like others I had an issue with both printing and fitting the blade, here's what I did: - Deleted the negative hilt from the blade plate, it was preventing me from adding a brim for some reason - Scaled down to 98% on the blade and printed w a 5mm brim - Manually cut a small bevel w flush cutters to get the blade started - Held the blade and (not so) gently persuaded the hilt with a rubber mallet This thing is in TIGHT and I have no fear the prop will remain very robust. I've held off on final assembly because I have a bronze rod on the way. I also removed the pommel jewel insert to make it look more like the art I've seen for the Sun Sword.

Other Issues:The blade is too wide without adjustments Approximately 2mm This is not a tolerance issue I will try it (as in another comment with 96%)

Got it, but I did need to scale it down to 96% and use brim.

Brim: I never ended up needing one, but yeah a brim is definitely a good idea, especially since that part will be obscured once assembled. Scaled down blade: It's a very tight fit at 100% scale, and the blade can only slide in one direction. It might have been a tolerance issue, or you happened to be sliding in the blade backwards. I'll think I'll try adding a notch or a logo to the blade and the hilt so it's easier to line up. Thanks for the Boost!

I started with a pair of needle nose pliers to get most of the supports out, or at least loosened. Then I used a combination of a thick Hex key to ram into the supports and a set of tweezers to slide between the solid wall and the supports. As far as I can tell, there's no easier way to do it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I have a Bambu Lab A1 printer and for two of the prints it just made random pieces of filament every where I have never had this happen except for this time

Shrank the print down a bit to give it more realistic proportions, and widened the base of the hilt so the spikes of the star don't hurt your hand. Overall great model, thanks!!
