Description of Model:

This is a simple transverse Bansuri inspired hybrid flute keyed for approximately E5 with tonic on B flat.  The body is designed from documentation on a traditional bansuri flute, but a lip plate has been added to the head joint.  The head joint is also enclosed unlike a traditional bansuri.  This flute will sound brighter than a traditional large bore bansuri flute.  If you are looking for a traditional bansuri flute, click here.

Print with solid walls.  Low sparse infill as default is about 15% will result in reduced resonance and reduced performance.  Scaling the flute should theoretically change the key with little or no change needed to the fingerholes.  Longer flutes are deep, lower key while shorter will sound brighter, higher key.  This also works with diameter.  Larger bores are deeper sounding and narrower bores are brighter.  I recommend using a brim and printing slow with a fine layer height, 0.16mm or finer.  Supports are not needed for versions without a lip plate but holes could benefit from them.

Instructions to assemble:

Check joint fitment.  If joints are too tight sand with 120 grit cleaning off dust before test fitting.  If joints are too loose, wrap with a piece of Teflon tape or add hot glue before assembly then cut excess glue once dried.
