Description

5 tiered display shelf to hold and display your brick mini figures / dioramas which can be wall mounted or fixed to your ikea skadis peg board!

Each shelf has a gap of 60mm between the next, so should have plenty of space within each for your display, the plates are 7 blocks wide by 35 long, about as long as you can print at an angle on the 256mm print plates.

When assembled it measures about 310mm tall x 390mm wide.

Included is a ladder that will mount snugly between tiers/levels, print as many of these as you want, it spans 3 blocks, brick hands will hold on to it without stretching or making them hard to take off.

Play around with colours if you like, made mine in just white but think it would look good with different coloured tier shelves!

Print settings

Use the settings included in the v2 profile uploaded, have found that using a 0.4mm nozzle (0.6m was faster but the fit was bad) a 0.47mm line width gives a more consistent fit to the figures and blocks.

Changed to Arachne wall generator and set Precise Z height to help with accuracy as was getting some inconsistent results between prints even between the sample and full plate, despite them being from the same file and from the same printer/filament, so avoid changing these for best results!

Try the sample plate first to test for fit, and if you feel the fit is a bit tight or loose you can scale the left and right plates in the X and Y axis equally by small amounts, try 0.1/0.2mm increments, do not scale the Z axis

Which plates to print?

In the print profile there are 6 plates, you need to print the following for a wall mount:

  • 1 x base plate.
  • 3 x left plates (7mm version).
  • 2 x right plates (7mm version).
  • Print as many ladders as you need.

If you like the look of the thicker shelves there is a separate print profile for the 10mm version with just the base, left and right shelves on there - the ladder, Ikea mount and base will fit both thickness of shelf so print either.

Then optional is one of the Ikea mounts, print either the 2 or 3 hook version for a bit more stability (I use the 2 and it's fine but wanted to give the option).

There are painted supports on the ladder and Ikea Skadis board mounts, added 100% infill modifiers to the wood screw holes on the base to help stop it splitting.

Assembly

The left and right plates slot in nice and snug to the base, but you could use a dab of CA glue to hold them if you didn't want to use any screws, but if you don't want to use glue and have the choice to re arrange the plates I have made holes in the back for M3 socked head screws (13-18mm should be about fine) you will need 2 in each shelf so 10 in total.

You can then use M3/M4 wood screws to mount to a wall.

If using the Ikea Skadis pegboard mount, first screw in the bottom two shelves and the top shelf from behind until they bottom out and are flush with the back, then screw through the Skadis adapter, into the base plate and through to the shelves, don't over tighten these they should sit flush with the back.

Note

The mini figures fit nice for me bar a few pegs that are a touch loose but overall good, the droids have an open foot so they are a bit loose but stand up ok.

The ladder is not perfect due to the orientation printed, may experiment with this printing upright for a better fit, will update if i find a better way to print it.

Finally, even more space for Lego figures, they hold perfectly. More of these shelves will follow. Unfortunately, the ladders don't grip very well. But I sanded the holes a bit larger and will glue them. A small wish would be an adjustment to the ladder rungs if they were a bit further apart, the figure could hold onto one rung and stand on the other ;)

Found the problem, have re uploaded a new profile for each, it was an issue with the orientation of the backplate, so trimmed it a bit and turned so it should now work with the P1S and X1C, thanks again for letting me know!

The prints went well and my son LOVED it. I had to use some lego pieces to make the ladders fit appropriately but that was no big deal for me.
