Description

This is a remix of the original model by victordesigns on printables. While there are many remixes of this tool out there, I could not find one where I could fit my whole spool of solder easily on the mount. I was not interested in winding it onto another spool. This version allows you to mount a 2 oz spool of .031 dia solder (example spool) that can be found in the US at microcenter, home depot, lowes, menards, radioshack, etc.

How this different than the original? My remix incorporates threads into the back of the pen, a 2 part spool adapter and slight modification to the gear cover to allow for another layer of material to allow this bridged area have a better top surface finish. Simply slide a spool of solder onto the spool, add the backer washer and thread it into the body. This will accept any spool that has an ID of atleast 24mm and is no wider than 25mm. If you have a spool of a different size, let me know and I can add a spool adapter to fit your needs. I have also included the .step files for the spool adapter.

The print profile included works well for PLA, ABS and PETG. This is setup on a single plate and print by object (3 groups of objects). The main body and the spool adapter are optimized using variable layer height. The profiles have finer layers for the threaded areas allowing smooth mating surfaces which provides a nicer feel to the pen during assembly.

Assembly is straight forward as each piece only fits in one place and the reference photos show part orientation.
