Description

When your joints hurt or lack strenght due to health problems you want solutions fast! Having a custom brace made take a long time and can be very expensive! Because the time from getting a doctors appointment to an apointment with a orthopedic medical device maker to having the perfect brace is many many months, I decided to make my own temporary brace.

It helps for carpal tunnel, hypermobility, ehlers danlos syndrome, sprained joints, reumatoid, connective tissue disseases and many others. The brace will help to immobilise the wrist while keeping use of the thumb and fingers.

There are two version. The “TPU” version has 6 hooks where ou can use bands to close the brace. I added some TPU bands, the same as I use with my thumb braces. They are perfect for closing the brace, but you can also use elatic bands. The other version has a more conventional closing. There are six places to guide velco or other bands through. I recommend a width of 20mm.

This brace prints flat and needs to be heated to mold it to your right hand. Begin by molding the part alongside the thumb. Slowly keep heating up parts of the brace while folding it around your arm. Make sure you push in the palm of your hand. This will make the brace a lot more comfortable and fitted. If you printed in PLA a hairblower will be  hot enough. Just keep heating slowly and molding small parts at a time. Add a pause if you want a dual colored brace for some extra fun :)

This brace is a work in progress. I have an A1 mini printer and this is the biggest size it can fit. I am working towards getting a larger printer (boosts really help me get there!) so I can make these braces for every size and more joints.

If you print this model and have some suggestions, please share!
