Description

Welcome Commanders! For those interested in expanding your gameplay beyond the computer, may I introduce the Asp Explorer Model! This was my first major workhorse of a ship starting out, so as a tribute I rigged up this model based on the base from TLS120 over on thingiverse. I added a few iconic pieces that were missing (front triangles, and some plating on the top) and then built it out as a model kit with separate snap in thrusters, engines, cockpit, and a split in the main body to help facilitate some coloring without adding too much time/filament changing. The stand was designed by me modeled after the elite logo. There are two primary print profiles: Multi-color as exhibited in the photo's and a plain version for customized colors or painting as desired.

Suggested Assembly:

  •  Print the Wings, Thrusters and Engines first. Snap in the 6 small thrusters (3 on top, 3 on bottom) to each wing, and one engine to the rear of each. Glue should not be required, these fit in fairly straightforward
  • Print the Main Body and connectors. Attach each wing with two large pegs each.
  • Print the Cockpit. remove the supports (minor cleanup may be required, but they should strip off easily) Attach to the main body via the small peg.
  • Print the Fins. Attach one to each wing. I used glue here to ensure these stayed in place during handling, as they can get bumped more easily and may wobble loose.
  • Optional thrust cones can be printed and glued into the engine if desired.
  • Optional Stand can be printed. It will slot in to the main body via the peg with a somewhat loose fit to allow spinning of the model to fit your display preferences.

Filament:

Design profiles were printed in PLA, but should adapt to other options with minimal effort.

AMS or AMS Lite Recommended for the Color version.

Current profiles are a balance of speed and quality at .2 layer height with a .4mm nozzle. Decrease down as desired for more detail! The scale this is at currently is intended to be the smallest to get good definition on the cockpit at .2mm layer height. Adjusting up or down is a definite possibility, but you will lose a bit of the detail if you go much smaller.

o7 Commanders, happy printing!
