Description

05/12/2025 Updated v2:

This is version 2 of the desk clamp phone stand. It is a pretty minor improvement over the previous version to improve strength and stability. The inside portion of the clamp now has rounded corners on the inside to help strengthen these weak points, and to hopefully prevent long term bending or breaking. The other minor improvement is that there is now a “puck” that screws onto the top of the clamp screw itself. This makes the surface area in contact with the bottom of whatever you are clamping it to larger. Which, in theory, means it should be more stable and not require as much pressure to get a good and stable hold.

Again, the recommendation is to use some rubber padding to prevent slipping if necessary. The threads on the print are difficult to screw in at first, my suggestion is to screw and unscrew it a few times to shave down the threads a bit. This allows it to go in much more smoothly.

I am leaving the first version up for anyone who prefers that one over this one. This version does take a bit longer to print and requires slightly more material due to the puck. Feel free to leave any comments if there are issues, or how I can improve it further. Thanks for all the support so far!

Original v1:

I am new to 3D modeling and printing, so please be gentle with criticism! :)

This is inspired by a similar style phone holder by another user, however, their design was a bit too small for my desk and as such I decided to make my own. This has a 5 cm (2 inches) clamp size for slightly thicker desks. It is technically my first draft of this design, so I am open to making changes and improvements from feedback.

The model has a wall thickness of 2 with a 30% infill to give it a rigid and strong feel. It is currently capable of supporting even a first generation iPad Pro 12.9 inch (32.77 cm) at 723 g (1.59 lb). However, I do recommend putting some thin rubber if possible on the upper portion of the clamp if you have a very smooth desk to prevent slipping. If the threads give you a hard time, I would suggest just to turn the screw back and forth a bit, and that should smooth it out.
