Star Trek SNW - Remembrance Day Pins
Print Profile(2)

Description
Here is a set of 12 Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Remembrance Day pins. The pins can be magnetically attached to your clothing by adding a set of 8mm X 3mm round magnets to the pin and magnet back, or used as refrigerator magnets.
A display block with a keyhole hanger on the back is included to display all 12 pins. There is also a block for displaying a single pin. Pins are attached to the display block using the same magnets that are used to wear the pins.
Requirements:
- The pins require AMS and a 0.2mm nozzle.
- The display blocks are best printed with a 0.4mm nozzle to reduce the time required to print the parts, though a 0.2mm nozzle could also be used for a better finished surface.
- 2 - 8mm x 3mm circular magnets are required for each pin for attaching to clothing or to the display blocks. A single magnet can be used in the pin to make a refrigerator magnet.
- Supports are not required
If you experience adhesion problems with the first layer on the build plate, be sure to clean your build plate thoroughly using dishwashing detergent or another cleaner with degreasing properties, then dry the plate thoroughly before printing. If you continue to have problems, spread a small amount of your favorte glue stick (I use the disappearing purple Elmer's Washable School Glue stick) on your build plate before starting the print job.
I used gold highlights, black accents, white or silver lettering, and a color that varies from pin to pin. A web search for "SNW Remembrance Pin" will turn up images of the pins that you might want to use for reference.
I have my AMS loaded with black in A1, white in A2, gold in A3, and then I use the color chosen for each pin in A4. The project plates are titled with suggested colors. White text doesn't show up well on the white, gold, yellow, or light blue backgrounds, so I changed my white filament out with silver when printing these pins. You could also use black or any other color of your choice for the lettering.
Judging by the size of the pins shown in ST:SNW Season 1 Episode 4, these 32mm pins are probably a bit larger than the pins used in the Star Trek episode. This was done on purpose to preserve a little more of the detail than I could have gotten with a smaller size.
I used PLA to print my pins, but other filament types should work as long as they are able to preserve the fine details on the front of the pins.
I printed these on an A1C. The base is 123mm x 163mm, so it should fit on the build plate of an A1 mini.
There are two project files included:
- A project with 12 plates, each containing one pin and magnet back. The plate names include suggested colors for the pin. The pins must be printed with a 0.2mm nozzle to get a reasonable amount of detail.
- A project file with 2 plates, one for the single pin display block and one for the 12 pin display block These can be printed with a 0.4mm nozzle to reduce printing time.
It should take a firm press to insert the magnets into the pins. If your magnets fit loosely, rough up the surface of one side of the magnet with a piece of sandpaper and then put a drop of super glue on it before pressing it into your pins.
An explanation for the Remembrance Day pins . . . In the opening moments of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 1 episode 4, captain Christopher Pike makes the following announcement:
Attention, this is the captain speaking. Many of us have known those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Officers, Scientists, Civilians who gave their lives in the hope for galactic peace.
Today we remember the friends and comrades we lost. Exploration can exact a heavy toll. As captain, there is no loss more devastating than that of a crew member. Remembrance Day is about them.
Those of us left behind wear the insigna of past ships on which we served together. As we honor the lives that have been given, let us also be grateful to be still on the journey."
