If you also love March 7th, then we're friends

It all started because my NAS was previously open-air, and after a year of use, the fan was quite dirty, so I wanted to replace the NAS case

After searching, ITX and 1U cases are not abundant, and there are also small and cute ones, but most feel difficult to assemble, some motherboards don't even have accessible screw holes

So I decided to design one myself, inspired by the adorable Zhao camera:

The shape of this instant camera is perfect for a computer case, the left side is the motherboard area, the lower right is the power supply, and the top is the hard drive bay area

The shutter button can be the power button, the flash area can fit two motherboard LEDs, and the lens can be made into a mesh for ventilation, so let's get started:

This was my first time modeling, I spent a long time researching which software to use, but seeing the finished product, I felt it was all worthwhile

Finished Dimensions:

  • Width: 235mm
  • Height: 290mm including hard drive cover. Case 240mm, total height approximately 285mm after inserting hard drives
  • Depth: 222mm = 187mm (case) + 35mm (front cover)

After assembling it, I discovered that dust would still enter the top hard drive slot, so I designed a hard drive cover, added a white border, allowing for custom sticker application, making it look like an instant camera printing photos. For instance:

  • March 7th as our girlfriend, the photos printed from the camera are naturally photos of us and our girlfriend

  • My apologies, I made a mistake, it should be this:

The hard drive cover is not mandatory, you can apply a 130mm x 47mm photo

Hard Drive Backplateis salvaged from the old case, theoretically, hard drives should work by directly connecting the cables, but I haven't tested this

BOM:

  1. Mechanical keyboard switch x1, used as the power button
  2. (Optional) 3mm/5mm LEDs x2, used as hard drive and motherboard lights, I used 5mm ones, secured with hot glue
  3. 6 Dupont wires are needed for 1 and 2, 40cm is recommended
  4. 10 magnets, 12mm diameter, 2mm thick, well… the opening is a bit narrow, making installation difficult, pliers are recommended
  5. (Optional, Recommended) 12cm case fan x 1, thickness no more than 25mm
  6. Screws: I recommend buying a "desktop computer screw kit"
  7. 502 adhesive, used to attach decorative parts to the front panel

Additional Notes:

  1. The CPU fan can only use the lowest setting, I used a 36mm tall L9a, measured a 45mm clearance from the side panel, and considering the airflow, <40mm should be fine
  2. When attaching the mesh to the lens cover, you need to slightly pry it, PETG is easy to bend, but if multi-color printing is used, it may break at the interface, please be careful
  3. I used three-green matte PETG (I think it's called PETG matte) for printing
  4. Haven't thought of anything else yet
