The kazoo is a simple and fun musical instrument. Instead of blowing, you hum into it, making a buzzing sound as the membrane vibrates.
Assembly Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Membrane Secure the Washer
As shown in the GIF below, find a thin membrane. Household plastic wrap works well. Cut a small piece and place it over the opening. Place the washer on top of the membrane and press it into the hole.

Step 2: Attach the Cap
Screw the cap into the hole to secure the membrane in place. Carefully trim any excess plastic wrap around the edges.

Step 3: Seal Check
The membrane section must be airtight. To test, block the end of the kazoo and blow into it. If there is no air leakage, the seal is good. A small amount of leakage is generally acceptable.

Step 4: Play your Kazoo!

Instead of blowing air into it, hum into the larger opening of the Kazoo.

The vibrations of your voice will make the membrane buzz, producing the kazoo's signature sound

Try varying your pitch and volume to see how the sound changes.

You can also experiment with different membrane materials to achieve unique tones.

Troubleshooting

  • No sound?
    • Ensure you are humming, not blowing into the kazoo.
    • Ensure you hum into the larger opening of the kazoo.
    • Check if the membrane is too loose or too tight—adjust by repositioning or replacing it.
    • Make sure the membrane section is properly sealed and not allowing too much air to escape.
