Description

Notice!

This is only compatible with the original AMS. Please view my other designs for designs supporting other AMS systems, there are plenty.

Buy Mega Python hardware kit

You can now buy the Mega Python hardware kit from our partner VisionToCreate3D, shipping worldwide.

The hardware kit means you don't have to source any hardware from elsewhere so you get all required hardware:

  • Fasteners: A full assortment of M3 socket head screws in various lengths.
  • Bearings: All required 608-ZZ and 693-ZZ bearings.
  • PTFE Tubing: The necessary 2.5mm inner diameter PTFE tubing for your build.
  • Cable Extensions: Molex Picoblade 1.25mm 7-pin and 8-pin extensions for seamless integration.

Mega Python has a strict non-commercial license, it can only be sold with licensing through Hume Beam Engineering Solutions.

Discord Support

Please do not send me direct messages here, I have notifications turned off as I get so many requests here and elsewhere so it's possible I miss your message. Instead, please join our Discord server for suggestions and technical support. Thanks!

If you need any help with the build or want to leave feedback you can join us on Discord:

Our server is named “QIDI Tech 3D Printers” so don't get confused when you join as it was initially setup for that brand of printers but we've expanded it to other brands and 3D printing in general as well as channels for some of my mods, it's where I generally hang out.

Welcome!

About

This is a remix of the current Mega Python (1.02) that allows up to 5 Kg spools to be used. The sections are 40 mm wider than the normal Mega Python and it uses taller threaded rods and drive gear sleeves as well as front roller holders.

The other printed parts are identical between the designs and you can indeed mix and match the normal Mega Python and Mega Python (5 Kg Remix) sections. You can tell which parts are remixed as they have the mega-python-5kg prefix in the file names.

It supports spools up to 5 Kg with a maximum diameter of 310 mm and width of 160 mm, useful for print farms and for others who like to use larger spools. It's a bit more advanced as it uses more gears and bearings and involves extending the feeder cables but more on that later.

It also supports smaller spools of course, even tiny 250 g sample spools, same as normal Python.

BOM and Assembly Instructions

The BOM and assembly instructions are identical to Mega Python, view it here.

hi there great work on this..has been reliable except one issue. my 5kg spools love to continue spinning from inertia and sometimes the filament unwind from spool and gets tangled. is there any solution to help prevent this without causing any extra friction on the filament, it already seems at the limit of the torque available.

Yes that can happen with the big heavy spools. For tne normal Python there are some addons with a simple "brake". Maybe something like that? Another option could be to use printed 608 bearings that will have some "built-in" resistance.

Ok, i am also noticing my bearing screw is coming out, so I superglued it back in.. also my spools seem to get off center.. I guess I need a better way to center them.. are there more options out there that work with your system for different size cones that are very narrow? where is the brake option at?

I don't use it myself but follow the remix tab either here or Printables and I think you will fimd it. Regarding centering the spools, that is especially important for those heavy spools, else the inertia when retracting certainly can gain momentum. I recommend the Python Adaptive Spool holder that autmatically center spools, you can use the top and bottom for Mega Python as well.

Hello, which gear wheels should be printed with TPU? Everything is displayed in PETG in the slicer. Should it be the ones with the ‘long’ tubes?

Is there an enclosure available for this version or just on the standard python? Also does this still allow use of RFID readers in the case I load a normal spool?

Is there any hope of a encloser for the 5KG model of the Python

does anyone know if someone worked on a slide out drawer method for this huge ams? I am trying to build something that hangs under my workbench and would allow me to slide out the entire unit for service and spool changing.

would this make the filament rfid detection not work?
