Description

I created this 3D-printed Dilophosaurus skull with the goal of making it as detailed and accurate as possible based on available fossil evidence. Dilophosaurus wetherilli was a theropod from the Early Jurassic period (around 193 million years ago). It is known for its distinctive double crests and was one of the early large predatory dinosaurs.

The skull design includes structural openings. While the model is not an exact scientific replica, it is intended as an educational piece for students, educators, and dinosaur enthusiasts.

Fillament:

I have added 2 filaments I would choose from, In the makers supply section. This are the filaments I used but feel free to experiment.

  1. Pla Wood classic Birch: Gives an really fossilised look and feel to the skull in combination with the fuzzy skin.
  2. Pla Jade White: Gives more of a realistic new skull look.

Support:

The supports of Dilophosaurus skull V1 might be difficult to remove because of the lightweight, hollow and detailed design. With Dilophosaurus skull V2 I Fixed this issue. The V2 skull has a more symmetric, stronger and less hollow design what makes it an easier print and gives you more room for resizes.

I have  the following advise for the print (V1):

  • Don't wait to long when taking off the supports, this hardens them even more!
  • Be gentle and take your time!
  • Use a really small tool and pry it gently between the supports
  • You can soften up the support material with some hot (not boiling) water, heat gun or hair dryer. Try aplying short burst of heat on the supports, this makes them flexible.

💬 Feedback Appreciated!
I’d love to hear what you think about this design! Even if you don’t like it, constructive criticism helps me improve as a designer and sculptor, so I can create even better models in the future. Your feedback matters! 🫵🏼💪🏻

A nice message, feedback or suggestions are always welcome no need for a boost to do so. My motivation is growth and your love, criticism and feedback are of upmost importance! 😊

Every model even after publishing still gets improved by me and this trial and error perfection costs a lot of filament. Your boost is welcome If you like my designs or my way of working and really want to support my material needs of filament ❤️

Turned out great. My youngest decided he wanted a fish tank and loves dinosaurs. I didn’t care for anything dinosaur related available at the pet shop so decided to print some skulls and this one turned out great.

Looks awsome, I would recommend printing it with petg to make it a little more resistant to water

My aunt & I are trying to make a bigger Dilophosaurus skull of this same model. But once our printer gets halfway done the nozzle doesn’t put more filament to the print but keeps moving like it’s still working on it while the platform goes lower out of the nozzles reach.

weird, have you tried Both profiles? and could you show me in private messages a picture of the failed model, or of the slice you use? I can try to help you solve the issue.

This was from earlier while it was still in the process of printing it.

Only logical explanation for me would be the sd card of your printer misbehaving or somthing wrong in the slicer options. Could you send me a picture/file of your bambu slice in private messages so i can rule out it isnt the settings? I found this forum post about a simular issue: https://forum.bambulab.com/t/printer-stops-in-the-middle-of-the-print/3141

thanks for the 5 stars my friend💪🏻 I also appreciate the feedback❤️, Iam currently looking for a solution for the thight supports. For now I recommend using some warm (not boiling or steaming) to soften the supports.

Supports did their job and could be removed very good without leaving a lot of spots. The quality from the print is self was also very good.
