Print Profile(1)

Description
Made this in fusion 360, alot of sketches, and alot of time since i'm a beginner in fusion.

The original carving is about 4m in length, and 1.5m in height. I scaled it down 1:24.

The Bjørnstad ship rock carving is carved into a granite rock surface. Granite is a durable and coarse-grained igneous rock that forms from the slow cooling of magma deep within the Earth's crust. The hardness and durability of granite have helped preserve the intricate details of the Bjørnstad ship carving over thousands of years. This resilience against weathering and erosion makes granite an ideal material for such ancient rock carvings.
Northern Europe, particularly Scandinavia, has a rich tradition of rock carvings, and there are several reasons for this abundance:
Rock Types: The region has an abundance of suitable rock types for carving, such as granite and sandstone1. These rocks are durable and can withstand weathering, preserving the carvings for thousands of years.
Natural Shelters: Many carvings are found in locations that provide natural protection from the elements, such as rock shelters and caves. This has helped preserve the carvings over millennia.
The Bjørnstad ship carving is situated on a rock wall that is part of a larger geological formation. The stability of the surrounding rock and minimal geological activity in the area have contributed to the preservation of the carving1. The rock wall provides a natural shelter, protecting the carving from direct exposure to weathering elements.
Over the millennia, the carving has been subjected to natural weathering and erosion processes. Physical weathering, such as freeze-thaw cycles and abrasion, as well as chemical weathering from reactions with water and air, have gradually worn down the rock surface. Despite these processes, the durability of granite has helped preserve the intricate details of the Bjørnstad ship carving.
