Description

No growl. No warning. Just silence.
Then a snap of underbrush. Then the scream.
The wolf you saw wasn’t the danger.
It was the one watching while the others fed.

The Pack Leader isn’t the biggest.
He’s the one they follow.
The one who remembers every trap, every arrow, every kill.
The one who lets you think you’re safe—so he can break you harder.

The Ridgeback. The Boneherder. The Last Fang.

They give him names in hushed voices.
Hunters claim they’ve seen him watching, never attacking.
Druids say he was once a companion, bound to a ranger who fell in battle and rose again as something twisted.
Others whisper he’s not a wolf at all—just the shape grief takes when it refuses to die.

He’s been burned. Scarred. Shot. Buried.

None of it worked.

He’s still out there.
And his pack still listens.

How to use this miniature (and never forget it):

  • Alpha Encounter – The boss at the center of a wolf ambush. If he dies, the rest lose control.

  • Recurring Wild Nemesis – A predator that returns in the night, smarter each time.

  • Ranger’s Former Companion – Abandoned. Betrayed. Now leading something darker.

  • Druid’s Forbidden Wild Shape – A primal form that the Circle won’t speak of.

  • Guardian of a Dying Grove – Not noble. Not moral. Just bound.

Let the players meet him early.
Let them survive.
Then let them realize that was on purpose.

Nature (behavior, lore, primal instinct)

(10+) Too calm for a dire wolf. Too quiet.
(14+) Scarred from blade, fire, and spell. He’s endured.
(17+) These tracks are old. He’s been watching you.

Survival (tracking, terrain, pattern analysis)

(9+) The claw marks are deliberate. Warning signs.
(13+) The forest is too quiet. Something cleared it.
(16+) Prints cross your camp trail—twice.

Insight (intent, psychology, interaction)

(8+) He’s not hungry. He’s patient.
(12+) He focuses on your weakest.
(15+) He’s watching who leads. Not what they say.

Animal Handling (influence, bonding, respect)

(10+) Unfazed by presence. He’s seen stronger.
(14+) He’ll notice you—if you bleed.
(18+) He follows not as pet, but peer.

Arcana (supernatural residue, hidden ancestry)

(11+) His eyes hold something more.
(15+) Might be born of a leyline wound.
(20+) Tied to a dying spirit of the land. A last avatar of balance.

FDM-Ready – Wide stance, thick limbs, clean support angles
Scale – 28–32mm standard, but it owns the table
Paint Potential – Raised scars, expressive face, flowing muscle

You don’t print this to fill a random forest encounter.
You print it because your players forgot that the wild has rules.
You print it to make them earn their long rest.
You print it because something has to remind them—

They are not the apex predators.
